Need Motivation!

Recommended Posts

Finding it hard to go back to the gym. I had a routine prior to COVID-19 and stopped working out at all. Have been at a weight plateau for almost a year. How can I budge it? Any suggestions will be taken ;)

I still haven't gone back. I ride my bike a lot when the weather cooperates. Otherwise, I usually do youtube videos - Zumba, virtual runs/jogs (I especially like ones like Treadmill Traveler, where you "run" through places like London or Paris). There are also some upbeat walking ones I like - like Gina B's videos and "Reps to the Rhythm". I have a set of barbells and some resistance bands, so I also do strength-training videos. My gym also livestreams some of the classes and have Zoom versions of others. I'll go back to the gym in person once I get my vaccinations, probably.

I am past 6 months, and was told from the docs that I should start exercising. I have absolutely no motivation at all. I hate to exercise. I never liked it. It is not because I am lazy at all. It is just because I find it to be very boring. The weather is starting to break here, so my exercise will be to walk around the neighborhood.

I, too, hate exercise for it's own sake.

But, I do like people watching. So my spouse and I would go walking to people watch. Malls, museums, zoos. We lived in Las Vegas so going downtown and the strip was always good turf to watch people. Before we knew it we were walking 6-8 miles several times a week. We had a blast. But no exercise.

Later, for some reason, I set myself a challenge to run 3 miles. I enjoyed it more than I thought. Listened to a lot of audio books.

Bottom line: If you don't like it you won't maintain it. 'Activity' works too.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
