How long after surgery did it take you to feel normal?

How long to be pain free and not have any post op issues? To go on with your normal life and excercise without pain?

I had gastric sleeve last summer (August 2020). I felt miserable for the first two weeks, then it was like almost overnight, I felt much better. I wasn't instantly pain-free, but there was a noticeable, huge improvement. I have to admit, I've been lax about hardcore workouts, but I started exercising (biking around the neighborhood, walking on the beach with my dogs, etc.) about 3 weeks post-op. I just had to take it easy. I'd say about 2 months post-op I felt 90% back to normal and probably could've done just about anything at that point. I'm now 6 months out and feel pretty great!

Not sure how different the sleeve surgery & bypass are. I had the bypass and was very sick for the 1st month. I couldn't eat, or drink anything without being nauseous. I had to go on a script of a nauseous patch. The 2nd month improved a little, every month after that has improved. I am now almost 6 months post op and doing very good. Keep in mind that everyone is different.

It was about six weeks for me. At that point I could move without pain, sleep easily, get in and out of a car, etc.

My pain was gone after about 4/5 days but I did have issues with low energy for ages coupled with low blood pressure. So honestly it was 4 or 5 months before I could do whatever I wanted. Even simply going grocery shopping could cause a drop in energy or blood pressure. I carried around a bottle of diluted hydralite to get me over those drops.

I still have issues with postural hypotension & odd drops in sugar but it’s manageable. But this is just me. I always had a tendency to low blood pressure just happens more often now. And I had experienced sugar drops if I over exerted myself before (even when I was at a healthy weight).

Take it slowly. Work out what you can do without issues & then slowly increase.

I had gastric bypass 5-14-20....it took about 3 months for me to feel what I would consider “normal”. The soreness and fatigue was gone after 4-6 weeks. I had some depression after my surgery due to not feeling like I could participate in family functions bc everything in my family was centered around food. Also most of my family didn’t know I had WLS. So lots of factors (that were my choice) played into that. But as of today I am 9 months post-op and have lost 130 pounds! I have more energy and I am happier than I have ever been. ❤️

My wife and I had surgery the same day and I will say that our pains were both similar but different. For me the pain was mainly at the incisions and that pain lasted 4-5 days. It was also very tolerable and for the most part I took tylenol at night to help me sleep. My wife on the other hand had a slightly harder time with the pain as her pants and clothes put pressure on the incisions and her pain seemed to last a few weeks. Her pain was also mostly in the incision pain but she also had a hiatal hernia repair and some of her pain may have been from the correction of that. I did not have a hiatal hernia so I didn't experience that pain. I wish you success with your surgery and a speedy recovery. The liquid diet was not the easiest for me and I had issues at the beginning of it. I found that I had to increase my salt intake as my electrolytes were out of balance and it affected the way that I felt.
