I have had a fantastic 4 weeks, I've lost 16.2 lbs in this time. I've had a significant slowdown in rate of loss and even a few stalls during this time. I'm currently averaging about 2-2.5lbs of loss per week. This is fantastic to me, considering at my best pre-op I was luck to lose .5lb a week.

My question is, during the 'honeymoon' period, is it reasonable to expect to maintain this average rate of loss for a while?

I'm certainly not expecting a 16lb loss every month moving forward (and not sure I would even want that) but I'm just curious once I am out of the immediate 'post op healing phase' is 8-10lbs a month reasonable.

I am almost three months out and have had my shares of stalls BUT I have kept up the the loss average through all three months so far. I am at close to a 60 pound loss as of this morning, and currently in a bit of a stall but that is how it has been for the last couple weeks. The scale doesn't budge for a few days and then it will slowly creep up a few ounces and then one day it will be down a couple of pounds......strange but its working!

I am praying that if I stay the course it will continue on as well.......I will be following this thread to see if some of the veterans can shed more long term light.

Hi @KellyMarie8288...congrats on the milestone!! Yay you!

We have very similar starting stats, I'm 5'2", starting weight 235, (but am a good10 years older than you). We would be considered "low-weights" and cannot reasonably expect the same weight loss rates achieved by those heavier and taller in the first few months, or in the months following the initial drop.

With that said, not counting the first two months post-op, when I had a higher than normal pound droppage for ME (compared to later months), I lost anywhere between 10 and 13 lbs a month until I reached goal by 7 months. I need to note though that I was doing pretty low calories throughout weight loss phase, as well as progressively more intense regular exercise.

I think its super reasonable to expect the weightloss you experience per month to start off large then taper down as you get closer to your lowest weight. But 8-10lbs *every* month might be rare although it can happen.

You may even experience erratic patterns that don’t look like a steady slope down but like steps (stalls or plateaus, but not everyone does) I have seen people make calendars that show their losses :

I hope the visual helps & congrats on Onederland ❤️

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
