VITAMINS, PILLS, GUMMIES & PROTEIN

Recommended Posts

I have my delayed surgery finally coming up on 2/23. I take a lot of supplements and Vitamins & have since Covid began. I take:
Biotin
Keratin
Zinc-Gummy
Vitamin C- Gummy
Iron
Super B Complex
B1- Thiamin
B12- Gummy
B12 Sublingual
D3- Soft gel
Vitamin E- Soft gel
Multivitamin -Gummy
81 mg aspirin- Stopped a few weeks ago until after surgery
Omega 3-6-9- Soft Gel- Stopped for now
Pro Biotic
Losartan for blood pressure
Some sort of prescribed Water pill
Potasium
Clonazapam for anxiety
Cialis occasionally
Propecia

I drink the Premier 30 gram Protein Shakes.< br />
I really don't want to quit taking any of these because I feel great and my hair, skin and nails are all good. I know a lot of people will see this and think it is over kill or OMG but this works for me and I like it. It has kept my immune system strong. All of my blood test are great. I am concerned about getting some of these down after surgery. I was wondering if anyone is taking gummy vitamins? I get them in what ever supplement I can because of the amount of supplements I take it is easier to mix it up. My Doctor told me to stop taking Fish oil and aspirin for now because of blood thinner. Any advice on this is appreciated, a multi vitamin does not do the same for me as this regiment so that is not an option for me. Thanks

Didn't need to do so

we were advised not to take Vitamins in Gummy form - but I had bypass, so maybe it's different with sleeve.

also, once you've had surgery, watch your labs and adjust when needed. The amount of Calcium I was taking turned out to be not a good thing - my endocrinologist said I was excreting so much of it that I was at a huge risk of developing kidney stones.

I sent a list of everything I am taking to the surgery coordinator. All they told me to stop taking was Omega 3-6-9 and the 81mg aspirin. I will check gain Monday. Hopefully I can continue with the collagen, Biotin, keratin B! for Hair loss at least. I m hoping I can at some point get back on this entire regiment.

My team was ANTI-gummy vits. I can't remember exactly why, but I think it may had to do with something about volume? Usually multiple gummies would need to be ingested for the same dosage of one tablet or capsule.

I was prescribed a pre-natal multi, Calcium, Vitamin D, Iron, B12 & Vitamin A at the time of surgery. I was also taking high blood pressure pills and cholesterol pills. By 1 week post op, I was off blood pressure meds, by 1 month off of the cholesterol meds, as well as told to lay off the Iron, B12 and Vitamin A cuz I was over producing, and to change my multi to one with low to no iron.

From months 2-12 I just took a multi (with low iron) once a day, and Calcuium & Vit D 2x a day.

After the year mark, I sort of started slacking off taking my Vitamins (my choice, just out of laziness, I guess).

I am 2+ years out now and haven't taken any vitamins since March last year.

All my labs have come back satisfactorily, including the 2 followups AFTER I stopped taking my supplements.

@Tim C I food a Bariatric Multivitamin that is specially formulated for Bariatric patients. That combines everything your taking in supplements. It’s called Bariatric Advanced Multi EA it’s a chewable I got thru Amazon. Your not going to be able to all you take after surgery that’s just way to many pills. You’ll end up full on drugs and not food. It is formulated so your body will absorb it. My doc stopped the losartan after surgery and my hctz Water pill.

I am going to at least take Biotin, finsteride ( both tiny pills) and collagegen in powder form if the doc says it is ok. My heals have cracked for years and since taking collagen they are as smooth as they were when I was a kid. It does wonders for your skin in particular. The biotin and finisteride are so tiny I can't imagine I would have to stop tking those. My own dermatologist even tkes those for his hair.

Started shedding around 3 months...kept going until about month 6-7.

Its all back now (plus some, I think/hope lol), and the same length as the rest of the hair that stuck around.

On another note, i too had very dry, cracked heel skin pre-surgery. Today they are lovely smooth and actually soft. Not sure if this is due to weight loss, or the fact that i wear socks all day long, all year long, because my feet are always cold. Lol.

LOL...I have one pair of dress socks for weddings and funerals. I do wear the ankle socks to walk and to the gym but mostly wear Olikai sandals 90% of the time.

Any chance you could show a pic of these vits. I’m looking for some.

The supplements won’t stop the Hair loss because it’s your natural hair loss cycle accelerated because of the surgery & reduced diet. The hair on your head is already dead & there isn’t anything that can save that. New hair is growing but at its normal rate. It all comes back just give it time.

I think the thing about gummies are the calories & sugar. Check the sugar content (it’s how they make them gummies) & calories of those you take. I checked some out out of curiosity & to take the recommended dose was 90 calories a day just for one Vitamin.

I haven’t taken any Multivitamins since January last year. Still have labs every three months & my levels have been very good every time.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
