Calling all February Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I'm 3 weeks out now and have lost 15 pounds, that is as of 3 days ago when i weighed. i eat a cup to 1.5 cups of food at a time (once or twice a day), then i have a Protein Drink and that is 230 calories so that is my Breakfast. still on the mushies and i stay under 1000 calories a day. it slowed way down once i started on the mushies. what is the name of the GNC Protein Powder with no taste. it really doesn't taste? i do drink muscle milk now and then it has 22 or 27 Protein in it. i eat no fat refried Beans with salsa and some cheese or some smash avocado. i eat mashed potatoes with little cheese and no fat sour cream and once i put 3 smashed meat balls with it. yum! i feel like i'm eating so slow and yet i'm not feeling full till way after i eat. i have found if i eat too fast or too much i get a sharp pain in my shoulder and told that was a soft sign. darn thing doesn't happen till it's too late though. lol i have also experienced the runny nose and that tells me to quit now.

i have not even had one little burp since my operation. I like that. I will probably get a fill at the end of the month. i want to lose more and feeling like i will be able to do this.

We are all doing great and we really are a bunch of big losers....and proud of it. :cursing:

does any one know what NSV stand for?

Hey Jeanie and all of my fellow VVs, sounds like we are doing well!

BTW, NSV is Non scale Victory.

Yesterday was my one-month bandiversary. Weight loss halted when I started on real food, but that's OK, I go for my first fill next week. I can eat more, I feel hungry between meals, so it's time to get going. I'm doing pretty good on the Protein (at least 60g a day) and calories (800-1100, depending) Now if I can just kick my butt into exercising, because surely that would help.

well look at you, Ready to go! you are definitely on your way! 19 pounds at 2 weeks is excellant. keep it up! isn't it encouraging?

Green Chrysallis, what is it you get 60 Proteins from? i don't seem to be able to get that and stay under a 1000 calories so i choose to stay under the 1000 calories or very close to 1000. if i drink one of my muscle milk with 230 calories, that's almost a meal in itself and being liquid it just right down so i'm not feeling full from it, that isn't 1/3 of the Protein i'm suppose to get. how do you do it? lol help!

Hi Jeanie6,

I find it's more important to focus on getting enough Protein than sticking to under 1000 calories; the protein keeps you feeling full. As for how I get 60 grams per day, I haven't found it that difficult. Half of a skinless chicken breast, for example, has about 25 grams (since you're still on mushies, you could process or blend it. You could use a little salsa, hot sauce, whatever seasoning you want). Half a cup of cottage cheese has 14. Two scrambled eggs have about 12. So for me it's just about choosing high-protein foods. I also use Protein Shakes as Snacks and occasionally as breakfast; they're always under 170 calories and at least 15 grams of protein as that's what my nutritionist recommended. I don't always hit 60 exactly but I get pretty close.

Hope that helps and good luck!

ok, i'm not on solids so it will be easier then. :( and i don't like cottage cheese AT ALL. lol i have been using the eggbeaters for breakfast or hot ceral. at this point most my Protein comes from liquid and that just doesn't fill me, goes pretty much right thru. i get close enough for another week, then i can eat stuff like tuna and chicken. and Protein Bars. Thank you very much!

I was felling ok until about a week ago when I went to a pulmonologist appt b/c of a cough I've had for 2 months. Part of the exam involved him pressing down on my belly (not near the port) to see if the cough was reflux-related, and it didn't hurt then, but the next day and even now 3 days later I get really stinging pain where the port is, like the stiches inside are burning. The pain is progressively less frequent and much less intense but I'm pissed off that it wasn't there b4 and I have to deal w/it now. I want to start to exercise since the weight loss is VERY slow and I'm alwys hungry, I even had a blue moment:sad: where I turned to a soft brownie w/fudge for comfort. At least that is my first bad slip up since I got banded. I'm still under 1000 calories daily. Its the Protein minimun I cant seem to usually meet. Once the discomfort goes away I'll put in the exercise. I just dont want to hurt myself right now. I'm fine walking so I'll stick to that for now.

olgi- Im sorry about the set back. But I think your doing the right thing. Healing is important, at this stage I think more important than the scales. We can both really really focus on our weight loss soon

Hello,

I was banded on 2/11. I have my next appt on 3/26 and hopefully will get a fill. I am hungry and feel I am on the verge of reverting back to bad habits. Everything seems to go down without a problem. I did get down to 201 but now am 204. This isn't good....is it common?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
