Needing motivation & suggestions!

Recommended Posts

I am almost 2 years out from my surgery. I got down to 163, but I’m back up to 170. I’ve been working out, but I feel like I’m stuck. Any motivational advice? I tried to find diet/portion meal suggestions, but most advice is aimed towards pre-op or immediate post-op. I won’t let myself go back, and I’m so mad I gain ANY weight back in the first place. I know. Few things like slowing down my chewing, or lowering my calorie intake, will help. Any advice is welcomed and appreciated!

You are almost to goal! You have done great! It took me almost five months to lose my last 4 pounds! Hang in there. It will come off.

A seven-pound gain is insignificant, particularly if it's the result of lockdown and the holidays. Don't beat yourself up about it! Early in my weight loss journey, I thought I had to be perfect all the time and would feel guilty about exceeding my calorie or carb goal for the day.

I've learned that when I do make a mistake I just need to put it behind me and focus on the future. You lost 112 pounds, so you obviously know what you need to do. Forgive yourself for the seven pounds and focus on getting back on track!

Not a big Deal - I had to push hard to get the last few - However I am a male so may not work for you. I bounced my calories around big time one day 500 or less then bump up then down. Then I did a fasting program and that worked well

I am in the same boat you are and I just started back restricting calories to 600-800/day and the weight is falling off for right now, so I think it might work for a while. Also, I've been putting on headphones and my iPod and dancing around the house a couple of times a day, 10-15 minutes at a time to get some cardio. This boost was just what I needed to get those awful COVID 10-12 pounds off that I gained this year.

Thank you everyone! I don’t want to blame quarantine, but that is the time frame of my weight gain! I love the idea of dancing around (I play “Just Dance” with my stepson)! I appreciate the words of encouragement! I’m so proud of where I am, but I have that creeping fear of going back. So while 7 lbs isn’t a lot, I certainly want my clothing to fit better 😝 I just got off my elliptical; a step in the right direction :)

I’m about 3.5 months behind you. I think our convictions & will power sometimes just fail us. All the changes & effort to lose the weight has been pretty exhausting & then our old habits raise their horrid little heads. I often worry about this happening.

It’s why I work at being very routine in what I eat, how much I eat & when I eat. I try not to buy foods that may cause me to gain. If it’s not in my house I can’t eat it. (Honestly, I’ve been eating Christmas cake lately which will be off my eating cycle in two days when the last pieces are gone & then it’s back to my normal routine.) If I have guests, I send them home with the leftovers so I’m not tempted by what’s in the fridge or cupboard. This is easier for me because I live alone. I know it’s more of a challenge if you have children or partners in your home.

Go back to checking your portion sizes. Protein first, reduce your carbs, cut down or out your Snacks.

You can do this.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
