Stall very early on?

Recommended Posts

I've heard of the 3 week stall. But I stopped losing weight at 1 week. I lost 10lb during my 1 week pre op diet and 10 lb the week after my surgery. My surgery was 11/30. I haven't lost anything since 12/7. I use a Bariatric app to track all my food/water/vitamins. My calories have gone up over the past 2 weeks (as expected) from around 300 to 600 and my carbs are higher than I would like (around 35 avg), but I'm finding soft foods are limited. I am not meeting my Water goals of 64 oz. I'm getting about 30 oz. If I do too much moving around, my incision sites get really sore so I have not started walking but I do a lot house work and go into my office a couple days a week (not just a couch potatoe, like week 1).

Anyone else experience this?

that first stall is usually the 3rd or 4th week but not always. Mine was weeks 2 & 3. As long as you're following your plan, you should be OK. Definitely work on getting your Fluid intake up. And if it hurts to exercise, it's fine to hold off for awhile. Your calorie level is higher than mine was this early out, but you should still be losing weight on 600 calories.... I think it's just a stall.

I'm finding the soft foods are higher in carbs and calories unless I just stick to cottage cheese and Protein Shakes. I'm so ready to eat some grilled chicken and veggies! I'm also gluten intolerant so that limits my food choices.

You've gotta get that Water in. Try adding some flavored sugar-free powder to it, like Crystal Light or something to mix things up. Your body just went through major trauma with surgery, so it might need to rest for a minute to figure out what you're doing to it before starting to release some additional weight. Most people experience their first stall around Week 3 or 4 but maybe you're a quick learner. Hahaha. Seriously though, don't sweat it. Just follow the program.

You body is on the defense and is locking down. Do not panic just stay on your plan. From a guy who hates Water you have to get that up! You will break quickly.

Yes soft foods are a pain in the ass for sure

Yes!! I didn't realize how little I drank until I started tracking it. It's probably been a problem for a long time. I will make this a short term goal and focus on my Water not my weight loss.

What a tough start! Seriously though, good for you for hanging in there! Definitely keep up your fluids - I was very dehydrated early on, my weight had a few days of standstill, I upped my fluids and it started flying off again.

FWIW, my program also emphasises the importance of keeping the calories above a certain level to avoid the body going into total panic. So just stick to your surgeon's plan, you'll be fine!

Yes, I have a fear of eating too few calories. The carbs on the other hand, I would like to keep on the low end per my plan. Thank you for the kind words.

Well increasing my Water worked. I got on the scales this morning and finally lost 2lbs. My water increase isn't much, I'm still struggling and will continue to work on it.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
