2 years & Still struggling

Recommended Posts

I'm so tired and stress, it's been 2 years and I still can not eat properly, I feel blotting and disgust in every meal. I can't go to restaurants anymore because I end up vomiting or with lots of acids even testing a bit, I guess is because of the fat used?. The only thing that I can eat are Beans, rice, Soups I been surviving eating bread but end up gaining weight. I became vegan because I can not eat meat anymore... I don't know what to do. What's your experience?

Hey Judy. I am so sorry to hear that you're struggling. I really wish it was some advice that I could offer you. I am just beginning my process. I joined so that I can make a firm decision on if getting this surgery is the right thing for me. I can't imagine what you're going through but I pray that you can find a resolution. I have read a lot on this topic and have read many blogs and forums. Do you feel like you are overeating or is it just that your body only feels comfortable with certain types of food being in your system?

what kind of surgery did you have? And have you talked these symptoms over with your surgeon's office? They may be able to help. I'm sorry, I hope this is resolved for you soon.

Which surgery did you have done? I am only two weeks post gastric sleeve and my diet has been limited but I would certainly suggest speaking to your surgeon or dietitian. So many Protein options besides meat out there but bread is the one thing that I would think would be detrimental to your weight and your insides.........Dont give up, keep asking questions until you get answers.

I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling. I am two years post sleeve surgery myself. I still can't eat tortillas or bread without getting the "foamies" and steak is too dense for me. Pasta and potatoes I can only eat 2-3 bites without getting full. I do really well on meats and Proteins. Have you talked to your surgeon? Maybe call their office and see what it could be.

I'm only 6 weeks out from a bypass so can't really offer much advice, but could you maybe speak to a bariatric dietitian and see if they can offer advice? I think you may be right about restaurant meals, because I've worked in a restaurant before and the amount of oil they used to cook (and the cheap quality of the oil) is a bit of an eye opener. Hope you manage to resolve it.

Thank you everyone for answering!!! I was having a bad moment this week. I felt extremely lonely with this problem. I have not met anyone that has done it so far or could at least comprehend my pain. Thank you again!

Thank you so much for your Support, I can not say that I repented it I do it. because I lost a lot of weight, but If I only could do it by myself without the help I definitely would think it twice. It's been a rough time, I lost all appetite and I used to enjoy food so much, my favorite thing was wine and cheese & pizza. I can not eat those anymore. but I feel awesome with the new me. I need to keep learning this new lifestyle and foremost love myself even more.

I can relate to what you're going through. I don't know about you but I am an emotional eater. So when I am stressed or feel depressed or sad I run to food for emotional support. It's a huge problem. When you think About your relationship with food it's tramatic in a sense. An emotional relationship with food, take that away and u can feel empty and alone. We have issues with food just how people who drink have issues with alochol. Try and figure out that relationship u have with food and I think it will get better.

Hi! YES! Same thing Pasta and meat is way too much. And Protein I'm so tired of the shakes I tried them all in every flavor you can think of. Fruits are great for me but I can only eat a cup but calories are not enough so I have to choose nuts or Beans.

I got a gastric sleeve surgery and I have talked to numerous nutritionist but I haven't found the one. All the diets are just not that ”real” for me because they can't relate to what I'm experiencing I just was a little frustrated this week I need to keep finding answers. Thank you so much for your support!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
