Sleeved, what’s next!

4 days post-op, I have no regrets but I do have questions... My surgeon, and his team made me feel comfortable as possible. I was provided all the resources/tools I needed for the pre-op and post-op stages. For the two-week pre-op, I lost 12 pounds. It was challenging but I did stick to the Protein Shakes and plenty of Water. I just wish I would've drank more cold water at least two days before the surgery because I'm dying for a glass of ice water.

On 11/30 I got sleeved.... When I woke up after surgery I had this need to urinate extremely bad and using that pan was not it! I had to go to the bathroom and my nurse was warm about it to say the least (LOL!!!). I also had this urge to walk around until I started to dry-heave. I was definitely in shock that I followed through but in fear of the post-op phase. After I finally relaxed; I slept the whole time I was in the hospital. I had no need for fluids but still I challenged myself to drink some water and unsweet tea. My incisions did not hurt as bad and four days post-op there's little to no pain. It has been hard learning to sip and intake required fluids. I usually need about 6/7 hours of sleep but been sleeping for about 12 hours. I have been walking around and yesterday I drove to the doctors appointment by myself and felt no fatigue or dizziness so I guess that’s all good.

Now for the questions...

This awkward abdominal pain besides an ice pack what can I use?

I’m not sure if this is a bowel movement but I’ve been had a purpleish discharge. Is this normal?

Can I use my ‘old faithful’ Vaseline to help heal my incisions?

How can I tell that I have drunk enough fluids before my body starts to tell me (the need to burp is brutal)?

Are there any recommended exercises to start immediately to help prevent excessive droopy skin and tone my legs?

Ok First of all congratulations and everything you need to know is on this site

As for Water DRINK AS MUCH AS YOU CAN min 64 oz is the goal. Now further down the journey other liquids can be put in place of water. For example I drink tons of Gatorade and electrolyte drinks but that is a long time down the road.

As for moving for now you simple take it easy walk a little but you have to heal before you do to much exercise.

CBC cream really helps the incisions

Get the skin tightenign lotions and apply by the gallon durning this journey I have little to no saggy skin and I used it the whole time, Now once you are about 4 months you can begin a workout designed to tighten skin, Get a trainer or look online there are some great rubber band exercises.

BUT FOR NOW CHILL OUT YOU HAVE TO HEAL WORK ON YOU SHAKE.SMOOTHIE PLAN AND Vitamin AND MINERAL PLAN

GET A SMALL, FIRM PILLOW AND HOLD IT AGAINST YOUR TUMMY WHEN YOU STAND UP, GET OUT OF BED, ECT. YOU CAN ALSO USE IT TO SUPPORT YOUR TUMMY WHEN YOU ARE IN BED. USE IT WHEN YOU COUGH, SNEEZE, AND DEEP BREATHE. IT CAN BE THE SIZE OF A TRAVEL PILLOW, BUT NEEDS TO BE A LOT FIRMER. I WAS GIVEN ONE AT THE HOSPITAL AND IT WAS MY BEST FRIEND FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS.

I’m not sure if this is a bowel movement but I’ve been had a purpleish discharge. Is this normal?

Can I use my ‘old faithful’ Vaseline to help heal my incisions?

DON'T USE ANYTHING ON YOUR INCISIONS UNLESS YOUR DOCTOR TELLS YOU TO. IF YOU HAVE SURGICAL GLUE OR STERISTRIPS, THEY WILL COME OFF ON THEIR OWN, BUT DON'T RUB, PICK AT THEM, OR PUT ANYTHING ON THEM THAT COULD LOOSEN THEM (LIKE VASELINE.) IF ONE IS GETTING ROUGH AROUND THE EDGES AND MIGHT FEEL OFF TOO EARLY BY ACCIDENT, YOU CAN COVER IT WITH A LARGE BANDAID THAT DOES NOT TOUCH THE ACTUAL INCISION. THE BANDAID JUST PROTECTS IF FROM RUBBING FROM CLOTHING. OF COURSE A BANDAID HAS TO ALSO BE KEPT CLEAN AND DRY AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AFTER SHOWERING.

How can I tell that I have drunk enough fluids before my body starts to tell me (the need to burp is brutal)?

GENERALLY, IF YOU ARE FOLLOWING THE GUIDELIINES AND GETTING 64 OZ OF FLUIDS IN DAILY, YOU WILL BE FINE. BUT YOUR URINE SHOULD BE VERY VERY LIGHT YELLOW.

Are there any recommended exercises to start immediately to help prevent excessive droopy skin and tone my legs?

THERE ARE LOTS OF EXERCISES TO TONE MUSCLES. I FOUND A GREAT ROUTINE ON LINE. MUSCLE TONING AND STRENGTHENING IS REALLY GOOD TO DO TO KEEP MUSCLE MASS, BUT I'M AFRAID ITS NOT GOING TO DO A LOT TO PREVENT DROOPING SKIN. YOU DID NOT START OUT AT A REALLY HIGH WEIGHT, AND I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH YOU WOULD LIKE TO LOSE, BUT YOUR SKIN WILL NOT BE AS SAGGY AS SOMEONE WHO LOSES 150 OR 200 POUNDS. AFTER YOU REACH GOAL, WAIT AT LEAST 6 MONTHS AND YOU WILL BE SUPRISED AT HOW MUCH YOUR SKIN WILL TIGHTEN BACK ON ITS OWN.

What creams/lotions did you find that worked for you? There are so many!

Unfortunately the creams won’t do much. They’ll help with your skin texture but won’t eradicate over stretched skin. Think of an elastic hair band that’s stretched out from lots of use compared with a new band. Your skin is the same.

The amount of sagging skin you’ll have depends on your history of weight loss & gain, your age, how much you want to lose, how long you were overweight, your natural skin elastin, etc. But really once your skin has been stretched the only way to get rid of the loose skin is to surgically remove it. I don’t have a lot of loose skin but it’s enough. I’ve chosen not to go the surgical route. If only I could stretch my body so I was 3 inches taller I’d have little or no evidence of loose skin - & I’d be taller. lol!

My friend wore incontinence pants for a week after her surgery because of the watery diarrhoea. I only had one attack & then was constipated. We seem to be one or the other. Also remember your consuming very few calories, so there’s little waste for your body to get rid of, & the calories are all in liquid form.

My surgeon told me not to touch my wounds until they had healed & to keep them covered until the dressings fell off themselves. Once healed I could apply Vitamin E oil or bio oil to help reduce scarring. A lot of people also swear by the silicon strips.

I used to roll the waist band of my knickers, pants & skirts down below the wounds so as not to put pressure on them.

This site has lots of good advice & suggestions. Best advice I received was to go slowly & listen to your body. It will tell you what you can’t or can do, eat, drink, etc. We all go through this journey at our own pace. You just have to discover what works for you.

Good luck on your journey.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
