November 2020 sleevers

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow November’s. I would like to have some accountability partners who are in approximately the same phase of the WLS journey as me. So far this post has kinda served that purpose but going forward we will all probably be posting in the thread of interest on this forum versus this post. I started a Face book group, Bari Buddies, if anyone would be interested in comparing notes, Q&A, moral support, and accountability during our journeys. This is the link if you would be interested. https://www.facebook.com/groups/411774243154346/?ref=share

That’s a great idea! I just hit the join button. 😊 I’ve been scouring for post-surgery liquid diet recipes. Surgery on the 10th so getting to crunch time! 😬

I just ordered a food mill from Amazon for the soft foods stage (ie thanksgiving). I can mince a little turkey, gravy and sweet potatoes for myself. Maybe not the sweet potatoes because they will be loaded in butter but turkey for sure.

Hey, all... Had surgery on the 2nd. Still in the hospital and will be here again tonight. Had really, REALLY bad gas pains, and I have an extremely high pain tolerance (I gave birth twice at home with nearly 10lb babies). It was so bad last night they actually gave me a CT scan (it was clear). So...a couple hurdles. Ah well. Also drinking makes me hiccup, no matter how slow I sip. Ugh...

So sorry to hear that you are still in the hospital. I stayed two nights. First day was miserable. Also a lot of pain from one of the insitions. Also did a CT scan to check if it was a hernia because I was so swollen. But it was just swelling.

First night at home was hard, had to sit up sleeping. So not much sleep for me. So much gas in my system that would not come out, giving me heartburn.

Well it can only get better from here. Hope next week will be better. Can't wait to eat mashed food instead of liquids.

Hey fellow November sleevers! Anyone else not be required to start the liquid diet until a week before surgery? Mine starts tomorrow. Surgery is 11/11. I’m seeing a different consensus in this app.

I just saw this. My surgery is on the 14th. Don’t have to start until a week before. 2 Protein Shakes per day plus lean Protein and veggies for dinner.

I'm glad you guys are doing well... I'm having a really rough go of it. The nausea is kicking my ass all over the place. On day 1 (the day after surgery) I am supposed to have 30 ml (1oz) every hour. I'm lucky if I get 10ml and even then I end up dry heaving all over the place. The lady I'm sharing the room with said I've gotten her gagging a few times. I'm a terrible neighbour. The nurse says it's ok... It's not abnormal so it should wear off. Fingers crossed for that sooner rather than later.

Sent from my SM-G965W using BariatricPal mobile app

Same here :( I had surgery Tuesday and yesterday was truly awful. So much pain and nausea. They offered to keep me another night but I figured I could at least go home and be miserable in my own bed. I can say now that it’s Thursday I’m not feeling near as bad as I did yesterday.

I will probably go home this evening. My pain is pretty much gone other than the largest (the one they pulled the stomach through) incision, and that's not that bad. I didn't take the last iv pain med because I didn't think I needed it. I gotta say, it's kinda cool to not be hungry at all. I've seen commercials on tv (which I don't tend to watch, but what else is there in here? LOL) that would normally have me salivating, but I'm like "meh..."

I'm getting better at getting Protein Shakes down (I can do 2oz in half an hour now, go me!) and I've discovered that Water has to be ice cold (or even ice chips) to avoid hiccups.

The hospital is 60 miles round trip from my house, so I haven't had visitors (I'm pretty okay with that with how horrible I was Tuesday), but I'm looking forward to seeing my family now.

I agree—that large incision where the pulled the stomach out is the most sore! I learned my stomach does not like crystal light or any other artificial sweetener. Water and Protein it is 😬

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
