Something is wrong with Christmas

Recommended Posts

One thing I LOVE about Christmas is that I get to do a ton of cooking (and it's typically fattening stuff that I usually don't eat anyway). What's sad is that I usually don't eat it myself. I'll make tons of Cookies and breads (zucchini, pumpkin, banana) and bars (lemon bars, lime bars, cheesecake bars, butterscotch brownies), but I usually just have a few pieces and give the rest to my family. Heck, some of it is stuff that I absolutely hate, but make anyway because my family likes it.

mmmm cheesecake!

A tradition that I have done for the past 5 years is to make candy baskets for each family within my family (if that makes any sense). I usually ended up making about 20 different baskets. I usually make pecan toffee, fudge, lemon cookies, chocolate covered pretzel, chocolate covered potato chips (I know that sounds strange but don't knock it until you try it, yummm), carmel pecan turtles, and more that I can't think of right now. I decided not to do it this year, because I am afraid that I won't have the will power to resist. Sweets are my biggest downfall, so I try to completely avoid them. For once, I don't want to gain weight over Christmas holidays.

Why, Georgia Girl, I do believe, I have never heard of chocolate-covered potato chips (*best Scarlet O'Hara voice*). (I'm assuming you're southern with a name like Georgia Girl). Speaking of the south, since I am currently living in it, I went to a X-mas ornament exchange party tonight and, holy crow, you southern girls sure know how to bake and decorate. The house (decorations, and food) looked like something out of a magazine!

LMBO! I'm telling you, if you like the salty sweet combination, you'll love them.

I have to admit that I am a bit of a fanatic when it comes to decorating. I've always loved the creativity of taking something simple and making it look extravagant. I can make candies very well, but I'm not the best at baking cakes and such. I'm no Paula Deen, but I love to watch her cook.

So, how bad of a bandster am I if I ask for the recipie for the chocolate covered potatoe chips?
Not bad at all! Anything is fine in moderation! After all, it wasn't eating a single piece of cake that got us fat, but eating the ENTIRE cake!

Hello to everyone,

I have read all the posts, should say I have skimmed some. Lots of thoughts went through my mind. I know everyone is different. I know we all have our own thoughts and feelings about everything and while I read I felt emotions and wanted to write back but people kept doing that and it seemed to get worse. I know when I lash out I usually do not feel real good about my lashing. I am so far from perfect. I get up everyday and try again to be a beter person. I am sorry that something has made you bitter about life tits. I do think Christmas can be a very bad time for some people. Many suicides happen at this time of the year. It is so easy to go the bitter route and harder to be positive for most. My point....I have a lot of compassion for people that are bitter and unhappy. I wish I could help. I have an extremely bright 9 year old boy in my class that has been sexally molested by his mothers boyfriend, taken to his grandmothers who broke a plate over his head and then sent to his aunts which is where he lives now. This child accepts all this and still smiles and tells me, his teacher, he loves me. He keeps me grounded each day. He makes me wonder about life and how these things can happen to children. He told me one day he had had too much happen to him for a kid his age and I said I know Matthre but don't ever let it hold you back. This kid could hate Christmas and life and people but he doesn't. If I sound like I am preaching I am sorry. I guess I just want us all to stop and take a deep breath and back off. We never know what makes people the way they are. We never know what goes on in each household.

Nicely said. What horrible experiences that little boy had to endure, terribly sad. At least he had you in his life to help him. We could all learn so much from the uncomplicated thoughts and simple beauty of children.

Because whether you're a Christian or not, its a wonderful time. People are happy, they're extra loving, giving etc. I hate when people get all stingy about how "commercial" Christmas is. What spoilsports. Its a time for remembering how much you love your family and showing them that, its exciting and special and wonderful for children.

No matter what your religious beliefs there's something in Christmas for everyone if you really want to make the effort. I dont think about Christmas in the religious sense at all, its just wonderful family time.

OK....gotta love this... So people don't have to believe in Jesus in order to Celebrate his birthday (birthdays are a pagan ritual in and of itself--check out your bible, the only two people who every celebrate their birthday in the bible were pagans), which really never took place in December (Imagine a baby in zero degree weather, surviving overnight in a manger), because It's pagan holiday. And everyone's probably going to "hell" anyway for celebrating this pagan holiday, so Pagan or Christian---we may as well exchange lots of presents, run up our credit cards, curse out the dumb cashier in the store who doesn't ring things up fast enough, drink too much, and eat alot, and return all the "stupid" presents the next day.... all in the name of someone whom most don't believe exists... in a country in which evolution is taught as fact and where they want to remove the word God from the flag salute ........hmmm...makes perfect sense

You got all that from Jacqui's post? Are you serious?

Is it a freak'en full moon tonight? Is something in the Water? No, it's the band. Is there something freak'ish up with the band lately?

Christmas is the Christian celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, who is considered the Son of God, and the savior of all people. With the birth of Christ, Christianity essentially begins; Christmas also celebrates the beginning of Christianity. Today, some argue, Christmas has been corrupted by the commercialism with which it has come to be associated. For the poor, it may well be a time when, to quote Dickens, “want is keenly felt.” Dickens uses this as an argument for practicing charity and “keeping Christmas in our hearts” on every day of the year.

However, it can be stated that for the many joyous family celebrations where poverty is not a factor, there are still many where poverty is felt at Christmas, and where families despair that there is not even money to give their children basic necessities as Christmas gifts. Such a thought is sobering when one ponders the Christian message as one of personal sacrifice, kindness to others, and loving our neighbors as ourselves.

So, how bad of a bandster am I if I ask for the recipie for the chocolate covered potatoe chips?

Not bad at all. It's a really easy recipe.

Ingredients:

1 block of milk chocolate candy Quick

1 bag of Ruffles plain potato chips

Melt the block of chocolate in a double boiler on low heat. Line a cookie sheet with wax paper. Dip each chip and put on lined cookie sheet in a single layer and let sit until chocolate is firm. Chip can be dipped fully or halfway. (I like it halfway dipped.....more of a salty-sweet effect)

See........I told you it was easy.

I am beginning to wonder the same thing. I work as a sup in customer service and you can seriously tell when it's a full moon out. People act a fool.

You sound like one of the good ones, SueSue. That boy is very lucky to have you for a touchstone in his life.

OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD, why did you do this? Why did I look? Oh, no, I'm in a LOT of trouble now. This salt and sweet combination is calling my name ....:faint:If I don't post in the next few days you'll know my band has exploded due to ingestion of too many of these ... these ... these treacherous, traitorous, delectable things! (pssst, by the way, what's candy quick?)

I've got a suggestion for everyone who has a hard time with Christmas and it's guaranteed to make you feel 100 percent better. Go to the dollar store, buy some extra large stockings and fill them with toys. It won't cost you a lot of money and you'll make a lot of kids really happy this Christmas.

It's the candy-coating stuff they sell in the baking aisle of grocery stores. You can usually find it in a bunch of flavors (I've seen chocolate, white chocolate, butterscotch, etc.)

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
