Good morning! My Gastric Bypass RNY is scheduled for September 15th and I’m trying to prepare for when I get home. What did you all have ready? What did you love? What did you not use? Any and all info is so appreciated!

You are going to get many suggestions. I would suggest you get Protien poweders and master the art of making shakes. I personally prefer them over the store bought. Get you Vitamins and supplements on hand.

also master the art of making broths and Soups for the starting weeks

Some use Apps to track food and calories there are many methods out there

My suggestion is do not overthink it you will quickly get into a routine and enjoy your journey.

Don't buy a case of anything unless you decide it's not gross. Your taste may change after the surgery. I also bought some bed pads since one of my friends needed them after surgery. I ended up giving them away. I drank a lot of Premier Protein shakes and Water at first. I bought some plastic 2 oz. cups, since that was all I was supposed to have at first. I used them.

Toddler silverware. There are options that are only silver and not babyish looking. These help you eat tiny bites/spoonfuls.

sugar free Popsicles and Jello. Get a strainer with the tiny holes. I loved simple French onion Soup and strained the bits out. It was tastier than a store bought broth. An immersion blender helped me have a chicken soup with veggies. I also agree not to get anything in bulk yet. I do like Isopure Protein Powder. It is tasteless, and I trick myself into getting more Protein by putting it in my Water and soup.

Get lots of the little medicine cups from the hospital. I call them "Mommy's shot glasses."

Why did she need bed pads?

Agreed on not getting anything in bulk. I had a very kind friend who gifted me a care package of herbal teas and 3 kinds of broth before my operation. I ended up disliking all of the broth and surviving off of a quart of homemade chicken stock I had in the freezer. If I were to go through it again, I would make 1 pot of chicken stock, buy 1 six-pack of sugar free Jello, and make sure I had Protein Shakes on hand. No need to make it complex.

I'll also say this. Immediately post-op I was spending a lot of time fussing about what I'd eat in the puree phase and making recipes, which was fun... until I realized my puree phase was only a week long before soft foods. I ended up having to throw lots of my meals away as I just couldn't finish them before they began to go off. So just keep that in mind, plan your purchases for however long you will be in a given diet phase, and for however long it takes for you to get sick of eating the same thing over and over again.

Good luck on your surgery!

I assume she wet or pooped a bit in bed. I didn't ask for a lot of detail.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
