Average weight loss following VSG

Recommended Posts

I love this chart
I had my gastric sleeve 7/14 day of surgery I was 259 today I am 249 so it’s almost 3 weeks the weight drop is so slow even my doctor said it was.... but it’s encouraging to see I could potentially be down significantly to 237 which still is slower than I thought lol but still encouraging

Not really maybe some walking just ate low calories and like no carbs or sugar for months; I personally was not hungry for months and lived off shakes and yoghurt... Lost like 20lbs a month on average

Was encouraging to realize despite my slow weight loss, I am on target. I weighed 211 on day of surgery. I am 8 weeks postop and my weight today is 190.2 pounds. Those weighing 200 pounds on day of sugery weighed 184 on average at 3 months. So I will quite likely to weigh below 184 (6 pounds to go) at 3 months. I need to remember that those much heavier at time of surgery show faster weight loss in the first 3 months. So I am encouraged. Hope some of you find this table helpful. 2020-07-23_09_32_22.jpg.7afbe8d94d2c52295fbec5aac102067c.jpg

So funny, I recently posted this cropped version of this chart in a FB forum. I do think they can be helpful (this one or others) since we too often have an expectation the]at pounds should be flying off when that is not true from the perspective of the surgeons or averages.

that's above average, actually.... I think people's expectations are influenced by shows like "My 600 lb Life", but you have to keep in mind that those people start out WAY heavier than the average WLS patient. 15-25 lbs the first month is pretty average (some lose more....some less...but that seems to be the normal range)

I agree! My surgeon said it is like any other weight loss, they expect 1-2 lbs per week (after the loss 1-2 weeks out). The problems is that some of us need surgery to do even that “normal” loss. Of course size matters (as on 600 lb life), but some of us were at a BMI of 35 not 50 and loss will differ.

Seriously? Stop shaming others for their weight/BMI choices. Better yet, just go away...

Yup. Have you noticed that some people keep changing their screen name because so many people are annoyed by their comments that they may have no choice but to duck behind the newest nickname?!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
