Meal replacement suggestions for breakfast

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am struggling with Breakfast, I am not a breakfast person however I know I need to eat my small meals. I can't stand regular Protein Shakes due to sweetness. Has anyone used Herbalife Formula 1 as a Meal Replacement? I am looking for a shake type of replacement for breakfast on the go. Open to suggestions. Thanks. I am 7 weeks post op and cleared for all foods.

Thanks.

If you in genreal don't mind a sweet breakfast try mixing a Protein Powder with an unsweetened one. There are either unsweetened plain Proteins out there but there are also unsweetened vanilla or chocolate proteins out there, e. g. nutri+ or alphafoods.

What stage are you at now? I see you had surgery on 1.14.20? Can you give us a little more information?

There are lots of ways to "cut" Protein Drinks to adjust their sweetness. My favorites are:

Cut RTD Protein drinks with decaff coffee or decaff tea. (Great both hot and on ice and blended into frappaccinos!)

Cut RTD protein drinks with fat free milk or nut milks. I like high protein Fairlife or Mootopia fat free.

Cut RTD protein drinks with nonfat, plain kefir.

Cut RTD protein drinks with nonfat, plain Greek yogurt.

Cut RTD protein drinks with nonfat, plain Greek yogurt + 2% cottage cheese to make a "protein soup". Add sf Walden Farms Blueberry or strawberry pancake Syrup (it's even better if you add 6g vitacost Peanut Butter Slim Powdered Peanut Butter--tastes like PB&J without the bread).

Make custards with RTD +

Add a scoop of favorite flavored protein powder to Greek yogurt and stir well--tastes like pudding. Love Isopure Bananas & Cream this way!

Add a half scoop of unflavored protein to a bit of cold broth to make a paste. Slowly add more cold broth until it's the thickness you prefer. Slowly heat but know protein clumps at temps over 145º. You can do this same thing to cream Soups like strained cream of chicken.

Add a tablespoon of unflavored protein to anything like refried Beans, smashed roasted cauliflower, alfredo sauces for zoodles or over well-cooked green beans.

Add a tablespoon of unflavored protein to a quick "Thanksgiving Green Bean Casserole with Canned Chicken" for soft food stage. So dang good!

I do this with soy yoghurt and a nougat flavored Protein powder. Also some additional cocoa. 🤤

Until next Wednesday. Though an apple and a piece of Pumpernickel with Peanut Butter is first on my list, ROFL.

Be very cautious about the Peanut Butter. It's literally taken me 2 years to handle it. I love it. But it still can make me so nauseated cuz of the fat in it I think? Any nut butter, I have to be careful with. But my work around is that I can do the "slim" peanut butter powders cuz I think it's partially de-fatted. Nuts and nut butters were really the only thing beyond super fatty foods I had to tread very carefully around. I think I figured out that it caused delayed emptying or delayed absorption and an insulin spike and that I got nauseated when my blood sugar dropped too low. And they made that happen?

I can already handle it. Peanut Butter, almond butter, coconut butter. Nuts are one of the fats I can eat that feel just fine. I wonder if there will really be any change in what I can tolerate or not though.

Interestingly enough nut butters are recommended now in the liquid phase to add to a Protein smoothie now and then as a fat source. Obviously good for digestion. Not heaps of course, but a little bit.

A low carb Protein Bar is good for a meal on the run. If you nuke them about 20 seconds it really improves the taste and texture of them.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
