Is there anything I can start doing now to help prevent saggy skin? My surgery should be in August.

Thanks!

I don't know how much you can actually do - with 100 lbs to lose, you're probably going to have some. If you're young, you'll have more elasticity than someone's who's old so you may fare a bit better, but you'll still likely have some. Some people say lifting weights can help a bit, too. The woman I've been co-presenting with to the pre-op groups for the last three years started about where you are. She said she has some saggy skin, but I can't tell at all (she said it's on her abdomen and her thighs) - so it may be pretty easy to hide (mine was, and I lost over 200 lbs, so I had quite a bit of it - but no one knew it was there besides me)

I'm fairly young, 42 next month. My biggest concern is my arms. I live in Florida, love to wear tank tops, and have a beautiful upper arm tattoo that runs from my shoulder to my elbow (not a sleeve as it doesn't wrap around my arm). I'm already starting to save for the surgery if I need it.

it's also going to depend on where you carry your weight. My arms were never that big, so I didn't have much sag there (although I had them contoured ANYWAY). Most of my fat was in my abdomen, so I had a lot of excess skin there. I didn't have much in my thighs, so I never had those done. I suppose if I were young enough to wear mini skirts and short shorts, I would have had those done as well since they look kind of wrinkly, but there's not much in the way of hanging skin there. It's not noticeable even under tight pants.

Not really. That is the truth. Moisture is always good advice but nothing will stop your skin from sagging. Who would be a lot better I think if people could just except that is what it’s going to be and either resign themselves to it or understand they will need surgery. I lost 100 lb by eating super healthy and working out a LOT and I did it slowly (as that is the only way it comes off after 50 when you have PCOS and thyroiditis!) - and I had skin of my stomach, arms and upper thighs that was bad and it was very crepe-like most everywhere else. I decided to do my stomach (11 lbs of skin) and my arms O6 lbs) and as for my thighs I don’t wear pants that show it if at all possible.

this is a before and after of my arms - the plastic surgeon said “well you got all the fat out of there!’ 😂

P.S. I had to dictate the post above quickly and it clearly failed me 😂🤣 I apologize for it being butchered in terms of spelling, grammar, and black holes - sometimes I think my iPad is plotting against me! 😭

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
