I never thought I'd let myself get to goal (120) and then regain. But like so many others before me I know what I have to do to get back on track. As of now I am 170. 2 years out last month. January last year I was 125lbs and loving life. It has been an incredibly rough year, but I can't let that be an excuse. I'm no expert, but that's pretty significant regain :( I had the surgery for my health and now I'm getting back to where I was at the beginning at an astonishing rate. My food choices are terrible, I put alcohol and soda back in my "diet" and I went back to snacking. Ugh!

Anyone else in a similar boat? What has helped you besides getting back to the basics? Is there anything in particular that has helped you the most with losing the regain? Any support and encouragement is welcome--I've been pretty down on myself lately. But I know I can get back to at least a healthy weight. This time I'll probably aim for 130-135. I came back here since this community was so incredibly supportive to me early post op. And for that I thank you all!

I am 2.4 yrs PO sleeve. I had 20 lb regain just got back on track 2 weeks ago and have lost 6 lbs. Go back to basics with Proteins first. What's really helping me is posting everyday what I ate and tracking everything. Going to gym is also a big motivator. You can do this!!!! Good luck!!!!

What has always helped me Is "out of sight, out of mind." I just do not have contraband food in my house. I don't know what your living situation is and if this is feasible for you. I lived with my Mom for a year and put on 75 lbs. When I moved out I lost twenty lbs over two years. So don't be surprised it your weight loss after regain is slow.

I’m 7 years out, and gained about 60 pounds over 3 years. Life was stressful and pretty terrible, and I just didn’t have the bandwidth to focus on my diet. Now that life has settled into a new normal, I began putting energy back into weight management. For me, it’s pretty consuming and takes significant energy on a daily, sometimes minute to minute, basis. In addition, i had a UGI and my stomach is the size of a normal person, so I don’t even have sleeve restriction to help.

3 months ago I joined WW online. I really didn’t want to do it, but it has helped a lot. I have lost 25 pounds, so I am feeling better.

  • I focus on eating Whole Foods and avoid processed foods, (WW really helps this for me)
  • I avoid chemicals like artificial sweeteners.
  • I also limit bread, rice and Pasta.
  • I don’t eat before noon, so I do intermittent fasting
  • I increased my exercise, but not over the top
  • I track every bite, and am brutally honest about it
  • I do not graze

As @mcfluffington said, expect it to go slow. For me, it’s just like before weight loss surgery. I have to fight for every pound lost. Motivation comes from within. It really is one of those “just do it” things. The good news is that you have the power and you CAN do it.

I know what you are going through. I am 8 years out. My high since surgery and regain was up to 189 in 2016. I lost roughly 20 pounds just making better choices in 2 years. In June this year was at 168. That’s when I said enough was enough. I still had the tool to help me be successful. I went back to basics. Today I am down to 130. That’s 38 pounds in 6.5 months. I stopped snacking, and that’s hard with an overweight hubby and an 11 year old. I started Protein Shakes again, and only drinking Water. I stopped all sugar and artificial sugars. I also stopped any added carbs to my food. My biggest help was logging all of my food. I’m not going to say it’s been easy. It sure as heck wasn’t. I chose surgery in the first place to be healthy and around longer for my family. Then the hell I was put through with 8 months in the hospital with many complications and more surgeries because of it. I finally snapped out of my PTSD and depression from it all.

Try going back to basics. Log all of your Protein, watch carbs and sugar intakes. I am now 3 pounds lower than my lowest after surgery weight. IF isn’t for everyone, but it worked wonders for me. I came back to this site, got the needed support I needed. I made sure with all the crap my family eats that I had better options in the house. I started taking a bariatric multi Vitamin again. I also tracked down my surgeon who had left the Army after we had moved on as well. He is the only one who truly knows what my post multiple surgery body is like. He has been a big help to get my digestion back that no other doctors and specialists could help me with. I took back my health, that’s why we all chose this path anyways.

      Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

      Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
