Same, I too was classified as Endomorph at my higher weight. That quiz says I'm between and Ecto and Meso now. 🤷🏼‍♀️

5'2" female: 5.25 inch wrist circumference, 2 inch elbow breath

Lol I've been claiming it since I was a teenager but now near 60 finally know it's true, made my day. I've also been using it for my kids too, the are not overweight but the scale #s have always been higher than they appeared. My girls are 5'8" and my boys are 6'4" and 6'5" I am thrilled with the validation

MY brother its your height and is considered skinny (resting metabolic rate of over 4000 cals a day- I know its nuts and soooooo unfair but he was tested several times. Anyway, he can eat ANYTHING and stay the same slender weight. Which goes far to speak of how your body has a set point. Back to my point. He weights 183 to 184 on average. He is trying to build more muscle now so muscle weighs more than fat. Right now he has more of that hipster thin look and folks comment on how slender he is. By the BMI chart he is at the TOP of the weight for that height. Which is nuts if you saw him. You'd be like no frigging way should you lose weight, so everyone is different ya know? But as tall as you both are I think if you are just under 200 you'll probably look great and if you build muscle you will definitely be over 200. If my brother was 145 Id check him into the hospital- for real.

It would be interesting to see what the insurance companies take on this is. They have presumably paid a lot of money for people to have this surgery to help them get to a healthy weight range. I wonder if they would be happy paying that money out if they knew people were going to give up before they got there.

Yes BMI maybe flawed but until we have something better to replace it it works quite well. People forget it is a range. and the range is quite vast which allows for “ big” bones. The exceptions seem to be elite athletes that have lots of muscle, I’m guessing that most of us here are not in that category.

Choosing a goal weight is hard and it needs to be something that is healthy and makes you happy. It shouldn’t be something that is chosen based on fear and other people’s perceptions. If we stopped losing weight because other people told us we were getting too skinny most of us would still be in the overweight range!

Insurance companies don't pay for it "to help you". They pay for it to lower their expenses in the long run when it comes to obesity related issues. People don't have to be a normal weight to cause less costs so some clerk at some insurance company couldn't care less if someone reaches a BMI of 30.2612 or 23.1524 when an EWL of maybe 50% only improves health quite a lot, therefore reducing expenses on medication or e. g. diabetes related complications, including not healing wounds and/or dialysis.

Maybe the people outside of the WLS community have a more realistic view on what can be expected and what not than the patients themselves anyway. Don't you think insurance company clerks aren't aware of the possible outcomes (including the less favorable ones) numerous studies suggest?!

Totally I have seen people your height around 200 and their tummy is flat as a board. Yes they have muscle but each persons body is different.

Agree to disagree.

All of my doctors are completely thrilled with my weight, BMI, and the maintenance window I've set. I love food as much as the next person, but I recognize that I will always need to be on metabolic guard against regain. This isn't magic bean surgery.

And I was always told I had "big bones" from my mom. But the reality was, I was MO from age 9. Sobering and sad. Turns out I'm a PERFECT candidate for a BMI chart, cuz I am just boringly average build - medium/average frame. LOL. I was just FAT and still love to eat. So I'm retraining my fat brain to keep me between 22-25BMI.

It does not matter where any of us land on the BMI chart or fat% chart. Resolve your medical issues and live a healthy life. Find a weight you feel comfortable maintaining long term.




Many of us lose/burn muscle with rapid weight loss. You will look healthier after your weight stabilizes. (adding carbs/calories in maintenance) The comments “skeletal” “cancer patient”” too thin” are not helpful. It’s hard enough to deal with rapid weight loss. No need to cause more body dysmorphia issues.




Just an observation on this site over the years.




Most of us are accustomed to seeing ourselves at our high weight. It’s a shock to see your face and body changing. Do you see other people at your weight as too thin? Do you see others at a overweight/normal BMI as too thin?


This!!!! I look at pictures of others on here that are similar weight and height and think they look better (healthier, fitter, thinner) than me because I still don’t see myself as a “normal” weight. I also try to remind myself that I am carrying around a few extra pounds of skin that someone who was never overweight would have so my BMI isn’t accurate.
I also have found that with only a 2-3 pound loss over the past few months (purposely trying to maintain now) that my body looks much different than 3 months ago since things are shifting around re muscle loss, filled in cheeks, flatter stomach etc.

Odd choice of words. I’ve spent most of my life being the fat kid, the obese kid, my height and smaller frame I want to achieve a healthy weight and BMI. Seems odd to call it a fetish to want to reach it and stay there. For me healthy BMI is between 18-24. I guess saying it’s a fetish to want to reach a certain BMI makes me think of people in my life who said I obsessed over my weight too much. Or called it an eating disorder l but when you are up against metabolic disorders, and disability you want to fight to have some part of yourself that you can make right or normal. (Probably am too tired to be answering posts right now ....) but there is a reason for BMI charts or calculations and many allow for height weight, bone structure, even age and Cleveland clinic includes waist size. And there is a range. It’s a guideline for health. To know when you ever off and can get back on.

Sorry, the obsession with this number is sometimes almost unbearable.

Same with calories, carbs, protein... Who gives a flying f**k if you're eating 800 or 808 cals a day? Or if your "carb intake" is 4 g above your limit? We're talking 16 freaking calories here! Six-teen. Not six-hundred.

The obsession is real and it's not a healthy one. Obsessions are not healthy. That's why they're called obsessions.

Seems to be a sensitive subject, Right? It’s interesting to see some judgmental comments coming from people that have been judged for being obese.

Be proud of all your work. Higher or lower BMI you are healthy- No one should be judged for their weight or BMI at goal.

      I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

      Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

        I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

        Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation.       On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
