I'm off to surgery in Mexico on Thanksgiving. What are some items you wish you packed or you had and found invaluable? Thanks for weighing in. Dont know anyone personally who has gone threw this so family support is nill.

Stretchy pants are a must. Bandaids. My bra kept rubbing against the top incision so I put a bandaid on it to keep from ripping the glue off.

Phone plus charger for getting support from Bariatricpal members and sharing your story. Good luck with your surgery and painless recovery! Happy Thanksgiving too!

Thanks, I'll need a longer cord definitely. I feel I'm cheating by skipping out on the whole holiday but I'm very thankful for moving forward.

Just regular size finger bandaid will work. Just enough to keep it from rubbing on the bra or pant line. I dont know if they will glue you in Mexico. They sealed all my tiny incisions with this rubbery glue that came off after a few weeks.

A liquids-tracking app! I didn’t download one prior to surgery and vaguely recall woozily trying to find one post-surgery. For some reason my nurse wasn’t tracking it at all and I definitely wanted a record. I found one and used it, but wished the whole time I’d prepared.

Also audiobooks. Best to download something you’ve already read and loved, or something that goes in short bursts like BBC sketch comedy.

Post-hospital my MVP was the two king-sized pillows I used to make my bed into a BarcaLounger. I never, ever sleep on my back, but those wedged me into position so I didn’t roll while I was still full of holes.

The best thing I brought was a small portable battery to recharge my phone. It was much more convenient than relying on a nearby outlet and/or nurse to charge up. I also got a front closure no wire bra and it made dressing for discharge and the days immediately after much much easier.

Best of luck to you!

Chap stick and lotion for your face it feels so dry. Slip on sneakers you need to walk walk walk and slippers don't cut it. After anesthesia I teach my patients any shoe with a back. Flip flops, Sandals are not a good footwear. Wal-Mart sells Sea Bands these can help with nausea. Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving

I just had surgery Friday. Brought a bunch of stuff I never needed. The hospital provided chapstick and I wore a loose fitting dress home. With no bra. Just a jacket over my dress. I was only in one night. My incisions are also glued on the outside.

Good luck to you!

Hmm, that's a sure 'fire's way to get stopped at the border.

So, I have special water bottle with time and oz but you think an app is better? I'll look into it!

Haha. I spit my drink out

I actually thought it best to bring minimal id... meaning leave c.c. license. Dont want to be frisked.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
