@FluffyChix I weighed in at 170.2 this morning. I still have at least 2 lbs to go, but I thinking I need to go down lower since the holidays are coming. I am not too worried but I also am not taking it lightly because we all know that 2 can turn to 5 which can turn into 10 ect. Yesterday I ate light but have been having lots of problems with my lumbar and neck for the past week and am taking pain meds the last 2 days which have caused bathroom issues. I didn't take any today. Yesterdays food was

Brunch 3oz roast, 3/4 small potato, and a carrot.

dinner 2oz salad greens with Tomato, cheese, avocado, bacon bits and 3 croutons. Ranch dressing 2 Tbl

snack 1oz almonds and a cupcake😜

No truer words hon! I thought I had Fatsgiving last year. I came back about 7-8lbs up from the holiday cuz I let snacky chips and carb crap back in for a weekend! Took me about 2 months to lose and I was so peeved! This year I know better. There is no magic bus. LOL. So I'm walkin' the thin line between now and feast meal! And gosh I would love to be on the other side of 130 lbs when that meal hits. LOL. I feel @Sheribear68's pain! :D

The drugs will stall you out. Or at least they do me. I can gain 5lbs overnight from taking them. So I try to avoid them at all costs. Sorry you're back and neck are flaring hon. Take care of yourself!!!

LOL at the cupcake.

@sheribear68 your menu sounds good but I highly doubt you are in a 700-800 range. I'd bet you are closer to 500 hon. Maybe logging would be a good thing for you to do right now while trying to entertain maintenance?

How long does it take you to eat? I still feel restriction at around 1/2 cup of most food and up to 1 cup of salad with toppings. However in the past month (around 8 months after surgery) I can eat so much faster. I can sit and eat my small meal in 10 minutes. I try to slow down but I guess since it's not a huge amount it's ok. If I were eating something out of a bag or form a big bowl i am sure eating too fast would cause me to eat too much and then feel sick. Do you think I am pushing it? Going to cause an issue?

As soon as I was healed, I have always been able to eat quickly. It hasn't caused an issues for me, except for as you say, I miss the full signal and get nauseous. But it usually passes in 15-20 minutes. It also usually happens if I am working and distracted.

If I do overeat I get a pain in the middle of my upperback. It's weird. I also feel better after 15-20 minutes. That only happens if I try to eat and it has only been an hour since my last snack/meal especially if it was a denser food.

I eat quickly also and am told by my boyfriend to slow down. I really need to slow down and take my time. Years of eating fast is really hard to break and after surgery I did really well, but now over 2 years out I have been reverting back to old habits and need to focus on slowing down.

It still takes me quite a while to eat, takes me about 45 mins to an hour to eat one of my regular-sized salads (not the ginormous ones I make when I'm excited, lol). I can eat a lot more that I used to, that's for sure, it just still takes me a while to do it.

I do think that eating slowly is a good habit to have long term. Mindfulness and all that...

Today, Wed, Nov. 13
Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / 115.3 lbs

...So I actually forgot to eat today. I had my first meal around noon and then went grocery shopping, dropped the groceries back home, then went to get a haircut, then to a couple medical appointments, then stopped by the mall to go shopping (so I could get off the road and wait for the traffic to die down). Got home around 9:30pm and realized I hadn't eaten! Wasn't hungry, but also didn't want to NOT eat, so I picked on some leftovers from Mr & the Kid's dinner. It was meh.

8:00am - earl grey teas w/ stevia

12:30pm - salad greens + vinaigrette + 1/2 an avocado + .5 oz gala apple + 3.5 oz grilled chicken

5:00pm - 1 Starbucks Grande Blonde Americano Misto

11:00pm - 2oz baked chicken & mushrooms in cream sauce

Totals: 504 cals - 36g Protein - 15g NET carbs - 30g fat

Okay so I can eat really fast. As in 3oz meat and 1/2 cup salad in 10 mins fast.

My saving grace on that is that I’m veeeery careful to pre-package/measure beforehand so I don’t gobble up too much too fast.
If I’m eating something super-delicious and find myself looking longingly at leftovers, I set an alarm for 15 minutes. If I’m still hungry after that time then I go get 1 spoonful of whatever I wanted and then make myself savor it slowly.
it took me 3-4 months to figure this out, but the first signal I’ve eaten too much is a runny nose, followed by sneezing.
once the sneezing stops, I better not take another bite bc then the pain/stomach cramping starts.
still haven’t thrown up once since surgery, but it’s mostly bc I’m super cautious and am lucky enough to have a cast-iron sleeve

Gosh, like all of y'all I can eat fast! But then I would over-consume. So I try to make myself take 20 minutes at minimum (although I could probably eat my portions in 10minutes give or take). This is disturbing to me. Ha.

I always usually portion my food by scale/volume so I only get what I get until the next meal. No seconds. Evs. It's a hard firm rule in my house these days.

I don't often feel "full" and have quit trying to chase that full feeling. So my portion is just my portion and I doubt seriously that it makes my pouch expand to give the full signal. The GI dude said something disturbing in my last EGD, he said, you're wide open, so I wouldn't be overly concerned with staying within a portion size to keep from stretching out your pouch.

That kinda said, your pouch through your stoma is wide open so food is just thru and thru. What do y'all think? I know RNY doesn't have a pyloric valve, but I think many of our anatomies are full stop open faucet from tummy to bowel.

This is how I understand it as well.

Which is why I think the whole don't-drink-while-eating is suggested, so that food is not washed down prematurely?

Although, I don't drink and eat either, but its because if I do I will get way too full too fast and then barf...

@Sheribear68 I had the same thing with the runny nose when I was full the first 6 months, but it doesn't do that anymore. I have to weigh out my portions because if I over eat I feel miserable. I also have an Iron sleeve and never got sick.

@FluffyChix I have heard the same thing about RNY and having a stoma as @ms.sss and you both pointed out. Its a good that you still measure all of your food. Do you have sensations of fullness with portion your portion size ?

I have to eat something really weird to feel "full" or eat way past my 1cup volume.

Things that make me full:

Glugging Water quickly can fill me up to the point of discomfort. It's as if my roux limb reaches capacity then sends the full signal back up to my pouch stopping things. But I don't fully understand the physiology or science behind this. I just know this happens.

Cottage cheese eaten quickly within 5 minutes can back me up and make me full for hours. I can eat 9oz by volume.

Dense dry chicken or pork eaten fairly quickly within 5 minutes can back me up and make me full for a few hours. I can eat 7-8oz by weight (terrifying cuz that's about 1 1/2cups of food by volume).

Combined meal: 4-5oz dense dry Protein (no sauce or meat lube) + 3oz al dente veggie + 1oz avocado + 1oz grape tomatoes can make me full for a few hours but not as full as cottage cheese.

Mostly I just eat to my volume per meal and stop when no longer actively starving. That meal looks more like this:

3-4oz dense dry protein (no sauce or meat lube) + 2oz al dente veggie + 1oz avocado + 1oz grape tomatoes - I'm no longer hungry, but I don't have a full sensation either.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
