Surgery Type = Gastric bypass

Age = 48

Highest weight = 307

1st date with surgeon 05-09-2019 Weight - 302

June, July, August, Sept - went through pre-op stuff diet and insurance hell

Surgery Date 10-01-2019 Weight 284

10-02-2019 - Weight going home was 294

Hospital care impressive, bariatric program impressive. I was sent home with all the knowledge and material I need. Nurse called me on 10/03. I had red tinged phlegm coughing and she said that was normal.

Today, 10/05/2019 I'm home and still sore. I don't think I was given enough pain meds so trying to use them sparingly. Lots of Vitamins and meds to take it takes me about 30 minutes to take them (morning and evening) due to the stomach making me full. My main goal is to get 60-80 grams of Protein and 60 oz of liquid. I've almost made it each day going to try today. I'm still happy I made this decision. Trying to walk at least every hour around the house and will i'm sitting I do ankle twists. I've take some short walks outside with the dogs.

Things that are bugging me - I have 6 incisions and 4 are horizontal along my fat roll that 'bends" when I sit making it uncomfortable.

Dr. filled out form for me to go back to work on Oct 17 I think i will need longer, will address at first preop meeting on the 16th

Lower left abdomen hurts internally, is that where one of the stomas are?

I know I'm still pumped with fluids, not weighing myself yet but I must be losing weight. entering everything in my fitness pal...always under 400 calories.

Ordered a cheap fitness tracker on e-mail since my fancy one broke.

I'm sick of store bought bone broth...will try to get some yummy from a local asian restaurant. ...

10/05 - had my first Bee Em sans Miralax

This is all more expensive than I thought it would be.

4th full day home....still sore..hardest part taking these pills...have to take them 5 minutes apart...another frurstrating thing is my hubby. We went to walk the dogs (we have two) and I asked him to connect the lead to the dog. It's still hard to bend over. Yes I was doing it slowly and actually did light chores but it was easier to ask him. He refused and said "you can do it and you will" WTF. I am so pissed I was gobsmacked. Then I didn't back down as usually submissivie wifey I am and it's the next day and we are still not talking. In fact he left the house last night didn't tell me where he was going and I had no idea where he was for two hours then he came home and slept in the guest room. . He was great during the hospital and surgery but seems very upset with me and not very caring. I guess it's something I'll have to deal with. I thought about apologizing but F that . Digging in and standing my ground. I actually think he's a bit insecure......

Water weight seems to be down, yay!

Oct 7, not sure if I would count that 6 or 7 days out of surgery. My scale says 280 but not sure if I want to update my tickers yet as it's known to be a few lbs off. But it's definitely down from the 294 it said on OCT 2 - WHO HOO. Hubby and I doing okay....Thankfully off of work until Oct 17 so my goal every day is to just get those meds, fluids, and Protein in. Went to bathroom again today that makes Friday and Monday.

So far so good, pain better every day.......

ordered step tracker in the mail and going to try a sytrax shake today.

Sounds like you are doing really well! I am sorry things with Hubby got derailed there for a little while, hopefully he can calm his insecurities and be the support you need right now!

Let us know how the Syntrax shakes are! I just ordered the sample pack and I'll try one for Breakfast tomorrow!

oct 7 part deux..not sure who highjacked my thread with the spam above. , I reported it...overall feel good but felt full a lot today like after a thanksgiving meal. I think I'm taking my meds too close together. I need to have the patience to wait...also need to slow down on the liquids... today at lunch i strained just the broth from progressio italian style wedding Soup and then ate one of those tiny meatballs. I don't know why I did that, I chewed it like crazy and it was very satisfying but I need to stick to what my doctors said. I really can't officially go to soft foods until Wednesday.....

Anyway...g'night

incisions are itching and one looks hella bad. I emailed the nurse she said i could peel the glue off and then put hydrocortisone. that wasn't what I asked I feel that my incision popped underneath the glue. going to keep it on and not scratch and see what happens. I did order scar cream as I feel these are going to scar.

I know!! My hubby is trying to be supportive by going out to eat, etc., but I am constantly mad at him. I’m hating the pain in my tummy, and the full liquid diet now and my nerves are short too. This will pass, I keep telling myself!!

Oct 12 update. Doing okay had some random sharp pains in the right hand side so started taking Tylenol again and it has improved. Had an issue with the incisions so went to back to surgeon and spoke to his pa. Turns out i was allergic to the glue..they removed all the glue and put steri strips on the open wounds. Still sooo itchy...trying not to scratch. I feel I can eat too much. I’m on the puréed stage and I ate 3 oz of Beans and I know we shouldn’t eat more than 1.5 at a time. My weight loss has been slow. Most people Lose 10 lbs a week per my anecdotal research on this board. On oct 1 I weight 284 and today I weighed 277. Of course on Oct 2 I weight 294, lol. I will weight on Oct 15 which will be exactly 2 weeks. I’m happy with the loss, but really want one of these 10 lb weeks. Still really happy as I’m down 30 lbs from my high of 307 🙂

So far getting Protein in no problem. Getting 64 oz of liquid a bit harder need to step it up......

October 17th update. Just an update I ended up in the ER then admitted to the hospital on Monday (the 14th) night 3 days ago. Had the worst pain ever I work my husband up. No vomiting or nausea just abdominal cramping. ER did tests and discovered I have a partial bowel blockage. They decided to transfer me to the hospital where my bypass was done 2 weeks ago. That took a while as the beds weren't available. I started to feel better and basically it was 3 days no food and Water I was on IVs At the other hospital my surgeon had them do upper GI xrays and watch me drink things to see if there was a blockage. liquids seemed to pass. I am home today and just doing liquids. One of the hospital doctors said these things can workthemselves out and that the intestines were "angry" This was scary but I hope in 6 months I will look back on this as just a blip. feeling okay now but having some regrets....

just a quick check in. Today is going to be my first day back to work - boo hoo. But I'm glad to be feeling better. I'm 3 weeks out from surgery tomorrow and I've only lost 12 lbs. That seems low to me. but I am 48 with pcos but I was super heavy to begin with. Have to remember this is not a race. But I see folks lose 40 lbs their first month....gahhhhh....anyway....my thoughts are this is not the easy way out, anyone who says it is I will throw down. I was one of those who always said no to this surgery because it's for lazy people. Boy, was I wrong.

Haven't posted in a while. Today marks 1 month. Even with my little ER trip I'm glad I did it. But...a RANT. I haven't lost a pound in a week. I have the dreaded 3 week stall. unbelievable. What gives me comfort is that this is a "thing" but dammit only eating 300 calories a day you would think that something would be coming off but no....ARGH...other than that I feel okay...been sticking to my diet..a couple of days the fluids were low. One night I forgot my vitamin...but overall good.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
