Loosing too much weight

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. My name is Iza, i had my sleeve surgery done March 14,2018. Back then my weight was 166 lbs. and could never loose a few pounds without gaining a few extras every time I did diet and exercise so I decided to get surgery. At first i felt great! I was loosing pounds and when i reached 130 I loved my body. However here I am a year and 6 months after and still loosing pounds something that I don’t want anymore 😩. My skin looks dry and I’m getting way too skinny now I’m a size 2 gaining 115. How can I stop from loosing weight and actually start gaining a little. I get full really easily when I eat and I’m some occasions make me feel nauseous if I push myself into eating.

Welcome to the site,

Over a year out. Could it be medical reasons or is it that you eat in a calorie deficit? You may want to call your surgeon about medical concerns also ask your dietitian for a new food plan to gain weight.

What are you currently eating in a day???? How many calories? Have you increased your calories, carbs and fats in maintenance phase?????

Members in the maintenance thread will share strategies on how to consume calories to gain/maintain

Here is a link to the maintenance thread.

Honestly I stoped taking the Multivitamins for for 6 months. Just statutes again 4 days ago. I can’t take in too much food because only the smell makes me sick. I was probably at 1000 calories a day. These last 4 days I’m trying to eat at least 2000 calories but it’s hard. I’m drinking 2- 11oz. premium shakes that Protein not sure if this will help with gaining weight.

according to the BMI chart, the normal range for someone 5'1 is 100-130 lbs, so you're not underweight, at least according to the chart.

Don't forget that many of us have a 10-20 lb rebound after hitting our lowest weight, so you may very well end up at 130, without even trying.

to gain, though, you just have to increase your calories. But your body may just naturally bounce back. I at one time got into the 130s and felt too thin (I'm 5'6"), but I started regaining (without trying) in year 3 and ended up at 150, which is probably a better weight for me (and easier to maintain!)

I’m honestly way too thin. Are shakes okay if I can’t take too much food ?

I would go to a shake like ensure that has more carbs. Protein Shakes are much lighter on cards so you will lose weight if you can’t get enough other food in the day. Ensure is better for maintenance and gaining.

Are you eating your maintenance phase food instructions to slow/stop weight loss?

1000 calories will keep you in weight loss mode. Glad you are slowly increasing them. I understand that you are sick of shakes. If you choose to get calories in with shakes, Read food facts on the back.

Weight loss shakes - Premier Protein shake 160 calories – 30 grams Protein, 5 grams carb, 1-gram fat. It won’t help you gain

An option is a weight gaining shake: you decide how many scoops to add. 3 scoops = 1360 calories 198 carbs – 10 grams fat– 40grams protein.

Choose a weight you feel healthy at. I’m sorry you feel too thin at 130lbs BMI of 24 = Goal weight is personal choice - 133lbs BMI 25 over weight zone for your height.

BMI calculator link below:

SIDE NOTE: I’m five years out – My BMI fluctuates from 21 to 23 It’s a healthy BMI zone. it's what works for me.

I hope you find what works for you.

To maintain I started eating a small amount of nuts, Peanut Butter, cooked an egg with a teaspoon of olive oil. I also switched from low fat to 2-4% yogurt, and changed from skim to 2% milk to get some more calories for the same amount of food.

Great advice, real food is a better option than shakes.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
