IS IT POSSIBLE TO LOSE WEIGHT WITHOUT EXERCISE???

Recommended Posts

Just curious like I know people exercise to burn calories.

But if someone was only eating a small amount of calories compared to normal is it possible to continually lose a good amount of weight long term or will exercise need to be added??

I'm eating easily 1/3 of the calories I used to plus adding more Protein everyday just I don't get much activity in!

How long will it last before I need to add exercise/burn calories??

Tnx

Weight loss is primarily a result of the diet, not the exercise. It is very hard to actually exercise off weight. So of course, you will lose weight with diet alone. However, developing an exercise routine of ANY kind is a lifestyle modification that will greatly benefit you in the long term. First, it builds muscle which burns fuel at a higher metabolic rate than fat, so the more lean body mass you have, means the more calories you can eat later. Second, it is good for you. Improving your cardiovascular health adds years to your life, combats depression by changing brain chemistry, and even helps prevent dementia later on. Third, it is a very empowering activity that you can control. This whole WLS journey has a lot of ups and downs, many of which you have no control over - pain, recovery time, food intolerances, stalls, volume limitations, etc. It can be frustrating and discouraging. Exercise gives you at least one area of your life that you can predict and control and feel successful in. That is really helpful.

Every bit of research shows that people who follow the diet plan AND exercise will have the greatest weight loss and will keep it off more successfully. It's something you just have to fit in. The first place to start is by getting a step tracker and getting at least 10,000 steps a day and maybe some wall push ups. Then add some upper body strengthening with weight, then maybe some leg work, then maybe some stretches. Then maybe some alternate cardo like biking or elliptical or stairs. It's up to you, but you need to start SOMETHING if you want to get the most benefit out of this whole process.

Is it possible to lose weight without exercise? There are bariatric patients with medical issues that don’t have the ability to exercise. Weight loss is more dependent on strict diet without exercise/activity.

Factors you have no control over that will affect how much and the rate of weight loss. Age, genetics, hormones, medical issues, medications metabolism. You CAN control how you work your surgeons plan. food choices, logging, exercise and hydration.

Decide what will keep you healthy and successful long term.

Where does the fat go when you lose weight???? Video below.

I agree completely with the above responses.

Yes some of us do not exercise much for various reasons. But I've noticed *personally* that exercise, specifically weight training, gives better results in muscle tone and tighter skin (to an extent) vs when I don't exercise.

Be consistent and the weight will come off as it should. But be patient too (at 6-12 months out start evaluating if you're getting what you desire from the surgery)

@Mikeyy

Short and sweet answer to your question is YES

i was never an exercise person. (the real "down and dirty" stuff)

I do walk - which definitely counts, and is good for you

i did a total 180 with my food/drink/moderation etc

All the things i learned in the Bariatric Bible☺️

i lost 105 lbs GOAL - 7+ years later, i fluctuate 5-7 lbs.

good luck

kathy

@AZhiker - you are the bomb - your post says it all.☺️

who loves ya baby!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
