Hi all, I had my gastric bypass just over 3 weeks ago, I’m now on the mushy food stage. I don’t think that I’m overeating and have never pushed myself to a point where I feel sick but I’m really unsure of how much food I should be eating. I’m not overeating I know that but my weight has stalled and I’m wondering if I’m not eating enough. I have a bit of a challenge drinking my full quota but do force myself . I’m not hungry so also have to force myself to eat. Was just wondering as an example how many tablespoons of food should I be eating each meal time? And if anyone has any tips.
Any help would be appreciated

At this point it’s usual to be measuring volume, generally about a 1/4 cup is what is recommended

Yup. I was told 1/8 to 1/4 cup was recommended. I was eating 1/4 though.

I wouldn't worry about the stalls. I stalled SO much at first. It eventually worked itself out. If it doesnt in a week or two try to switch up your food a little. That's what I do and it works. But a few weeks after surgery I was stalling like crazy so don't worry!

I was eating about 500 calories a day at 3 weeks. Volumes included 1/4 c yoghurt, 1/4 c. cottage cheese, 1/2 Protein Shake. Looks like my slider was refried Beans thinned down in broth (miso or bone).

Yep. What everyone else said. :) Volume is KING. Through every phase it's very important to follow their volume instructions for your stage. Stage 1 & 2 is usually 1/8-1/4c. Usually calories (liquids) take caree of themselves. If you are getting in your 48-60g of Protein at that point from liquids, it is usually about 300-500 cals. As you progress, you will be at 60-80g of protein and Stage 3 & 4 will look more like 1/4c-1cup max. Anything you eat needs to fit within your cup.

So if you eat 1-2oz of dense protein by weight, it goes into your measuring cup for your appropriate volume limit for the meal. 1-2oz of protein can take up as much space as 1/2cup of volume.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
