Hey Amy. I was banded by Dr. Bagnato on 9-20-07. I would love to meet up with you guys but I live in Moultrie and I am a stay-at-home mom so I won't be able to. Which ones of you are meeting up? If something changes, I will let you know. I would love to meet you guys, so maybe another time?

Georgia Girl - I wonder if I have met you. When I went for my preop, there was a nice lady who was there for her 1 week follow-up and we spoke a little. She was a homemaker from Moultrie and was with her husband. Do you have black/dark brown hair? I was there with my husband and am quite a bit older than you. If it was you, both my husband and I thought you looked great for one week out.

Looking at your results, you seem to be doing really good. How did you survive thanksgiving?

I would like to meet the others, but won't be in Albany until the 29th for my first fill. I'm over in Douglas.

Yes, I remember you. How are you doing since your surgery? Your weight loss is going great! I absolutely love my band. I haven't had any problems so far (knock on wood). Thanksgiving went really well. I didn't count calories or anything that day, I just ate a little spoonful of a lot of different things. And I completely stayed away from the sweets. That was an accomplishment in itself. I'm so glad you posted this and maybe all of us who used Dr. B can get together one day and chat. I hope you are doing well and take care.

Georgia girl - you have lost soo much weight!!! I am soo impressed (and jealous) but I will get there.

I have a very good friend of mine that lives in Moultrie (she should be giving birth any day now... I will be in the delivery room with her, she is single now.. and better off for it!) So I will be down that way often to help her with the baby.. maybe we can meet up sometime when I am down that way!!

Talk to you soon,

Amy

Keep up the great work!!!

Let's plan on meeting at the Obesity Center (where we get our fills at - across the street from Bagnato's office) at say 1PM?? My fill is scheduled for 1pm so I know I will be there (nice 3 hr drive to get there too... LOL).

I plan on popping my head in to say Hi to the gals at Dr. B's office right before my fill (promised them I would) and then I will be where I get the fill. Another girl that had it the same day as Me is going to be there by 2pm. So she will get there early enough to meet with us too...

What do ya say? See ya there???????

Amy

I agree, I think it would be a wonderful if we could start a monthly support group and meet once a month. I do not know anyone personally who has the band, so it would be nice to have people to talk to, face to face, that are going through the same things.

Hi all!

I am so sorry I couldn't get away to meet with those of you that got the chance to meet up today. I hope you all had a nice time together. I had my first post op visit with Dr B today and he said I could go ahead and start on soft/mushy foods. I get my girst fill on 1/3/08 so I have to focus on keeping my calorie intake low enough to keep losing weigh by will power until then. So if any of you have some good low calorie soft food ideas please pass them my way. Have a good evening and take care.

Congrats Mia. I was also a self-pay with Dr. B. You'll really like him and his staff. They're great to work with. Once I went in for my preop and paid, my surgery was 2 weeks later. Just long enough for the 2 week sugar busters diet. Good luck and let us know how things go.

Thanks! How was the sugar busters diet? I am invisioning it in my head as being really hard to stick to and utter hell, lol. I realize the importance of sticking to it and really hope that I can. I just am sooo hungry all of the time and it seems like such a large amount it takes to fill me up. What exactly was the procedure like? How soon could you resume normal activity like work etc?

I managed fine with the sugar busters. Just stay away from anything white. One thing that really helped was that I wanted the procedure soo bad and the fact that I wasn't going to risk not getting the surgery. He says the reason for sugar busters is to reduce the size of the liver and that he has refused to do the procedure when someone's liver was too big. I wasn't going to risk that. I also think that when we are self pays that its a bit of extra encouragement to follow the plan exactly. Who wants to waste that much money? Not me!

As far as the procedure goes I was in and out the same day (he also repaired 2 hernias during the procedure). He asked me if I wanted to spend the night, but no way. I wanted my own bed. I had mine on a Thursday and went back to work the next Tuesday. The first couple of days I only worked 1/2 days and it was a little rough, but by the following Monday I was just fine.

Hope things go well for you. I'm soo happy with my band, I'd do it again anyday.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
