How many calories do you eat a day?

Recommended Posts

I feel bad if I go over 400 calories in a day. But that’s been the max I can do. Maybe a bit over if I have a higher calorie Protein Drink. I usually max at 50 grams Protein. I think pushing to get too much protein isn’t good, your body won’t utilize it all, it converts to glucose. Being glucose intolerant I don’t push the protein too much. I get the most in the morning. Though it’s good to have protein before rest vs before exercise since you use the protein for recovery, and is not as efficient for burning for energy. Fat is more efficient for energy burning. I’m not the norm, I don’t think so at least.

Issues have kept me from moving into purée foods. I ended up cheating and buying Banza chick pea Pasta and find it easier to get down, easier to chew to swallow. It’s 190 calories, 14 grams of protein and 8 grams of Fiber for 2 ounces. There is also another protein pasta made with black soybeans called explore cuisine that has 25 grams of protein and 11 grams of fiber I. 2 ounces.

I’m just over one week out and am at just about 500 cal/day.
B: 1/2 Dannon Light & Fit yogurt 40 cal 1/2 Premier Protein shake 80 cal
L: same as Breakfast, 120 cal
S: 1/2 Premier Protein Shake 80 cal
D: 1/2 Premier Protein shake 80 cal 1/2 c Tomato Soup 75 cal
S: Outshine popsicle 25 cal

Next week starts the soft food diet, I’ll be very interested to see what I get in when it’s actual bulkier food rather than fluids only, I suspect my cal intake might drop a bit.

Yeah. I'm at about 1000-1100 calories per day now. I can eat about 1 cup of food at a time, give or take a little, and I get 80+ grams of Protein a day. I'm losing about 2-3 lbs a week right now, and I'm pretty happy.

I also feel the same I’m worried about eating too much as I don’t want to stretch my stomach but I don’t get a full feeling, have never felt sick so am wondering if I’m not eating enough, my weight loss has stalled. I know I’m really early days but it becomes frustrating
Can anyone tell me if they feel really full and how much food would you eat to feel this way?

I’m 8 years out and can only manage about 1000 a day. Anymore and I am just uncomfortable. If I eat more than 500 at a meal, it’s not pretty.

After logging all of my food yesterday, I'm at about 800 but probably nearer to 1000 (maybe even a bit more) if I don't log.

I keep thinking about this subject every so often and what really is upsetting to me is how hard I fought to lose weight for so long, I was able to lose on my own at least twelve years ago when my weight hit its maximum both due to metabolic disorders, chronic illness, disability etc. and just plain old frustration and sugar addiction. I kicked the sugar addiction as hard as I could, did a combination of low carb and calorie counting. But fast forward to before surgery and my weight was constant war to keep it down, to maintain the right calories and carbs etc. what gets me is that prior to surgery I was eating average 800 calories a day based on calculators for pcos and metabolic disorders. Plus less than 20 net carbs. Admittedly some weeks as I pursued figuring out what was wrong with my gallbladder and the idea of weight loss surgery, I loosened up and had things like sweet kale salad with gardein grabless crab cakes or gardein fishless fish with cauliflower tots. The worst thing I ate was a Piece of cake for someone’s birthday, I hadn’t had in years and the frosting was just too good. I did have a little Pasta here and there. And the frustrating part? My mom was eating nearly all the same foods and similar portions, we are both 5’ 0 yet at my heaviest she was half my weight and thought anything over 100lb too much.

At the same time I don’t care, if I get my Protein I’m fine. But I see people able to eat what I consider normal calories ie. 800-1000 and still lose weight. While I was gaining.

Im glad to see the weight coming off but it hangs over my head, can I find the right balance to lose and maintain a healthy weight long term? My loss is slow but steady but my overall progress to “normalcy “ not so much. Not that anything in my life has ever been normal ...

Every time I see the nutritionist she wants my intake up. First time I seen her after surgery I was getting under 500 calories and she wanted it up to 1000. I didn't listen and I was stalled for 2 weeks. I then went up to 700 calories and the weight started coming off again. Now I am up to about 820 a day and was losing but have stalled. Scared to increase but I will try after I've exhausted other options like drinking more Water or getting more exercise in. I believe we need to listen to our bodies and figure out what works for us and what's healthy for us.

I am between 700 and 1,000 being 6 months out. I’m very tall, work out almost every day, get my Protein in, and I’m still doing well dropping the weight :)

I was eating around 800/calories a day but my weight loss has stopped, so I'm trying something new by increasing the calories. Yesterday I had 1350. I might hit 1200 today. We'll see how it goes. I'm 7 months post-op.
I was in the same situation.I eated probably between 500-800 after 6 months of my surgery. When I was probably 8 months out,I stopped loosing weight. My bariatric nurse told me that I might in my perfect weight(I was so upset, because I was still overweight).I increased my calories to 1000,and my weight started to go down. Now I eat about 1400 calories(most of the days though I am OK with 1200). I exercise 5 times per week(only cardio) and try to do 10000 steps per day.

I'm usually around 1100-1300 per day, but I relax some on the weekends and I maintain pretty well. (19 months post-op)

I'm 17 months out. Very slow metabolism. I walk 60 minutes and aim for 6 days per week and do some very undisciplined movement/core exercises a couple times per week.

I'm presently working on my Goal #3 of 130lbs. Weight loss is super duper slow these last 20lbs. For me to lose I'm at 650-850 but generally 650-700. I keep it to 1cup volume at meals, aim for 0-1 snack if absolutely necessary and get between 55-60ish grams Protein daily mostly from food.

I maintain easily in a range of 900-1100 with some days back at the low end of 650.

Fluffy...You are a legend! Thank you for sharing your experiences. It really helps us newbies see what it's going to be like in the future so we can establish good habits now. /hugs

When me and my nutritionist were going over my guidelines after the liquid phase she brought out the 1/3 cup and said I shouldn't eat more than that. I gotta tell you I was shocked because it seemed so minuscule compared to what I used to eat. So I told her it seems like I could eat more! She pointed to her head with her finger and said that's all in your head. Eating more than that is giving into head hunger. And she was right my mind will still tell me that's not enough when I visually see it but when I eat I'm constantly waiting for the cues of being satisfied/full and stop eating immediately when they come. It's usually before I've eatin the whole 1/3 C.

Are you still at 1/3 cup? even now?

On most things yes. I'm supposed to be at 1/2 cup at this point since I'm almost five months out but find it difficult to reach that most days. Yesterday I measured 1/2 cup of cottage cheese and was only able to eat half. I also stop IMMEDIATELY when I start to feel full even spitting food out instead of swallowing the next bite if I start to feel that sensation mid chew. I'm so paranoid that I will stretch out my stomach and lose my restriction because everyone says the further out you get the less restriction you have. I think that preventing pouch stretch is just as important as counting calories and eating healthy.

This is what im more worrying about. It seems like my pouch can hold way more up to almost a cup already (6 weeks out). Is that normal?

I think a key is to chew very thoroughly, and eat SLOW. I can eat more than a cup at once also, if I wanted too. I stop once I get full. I asked the DR. about the pouch stretching, he said it takes a very long time to stretch out your pouch.

I haven't pooped in a weed and I'd love a 4 pound poo right now lol

Lol, yeah, I've been known to drop 3-ish lbs after a good (and long awaited) poop.

.....or even after a moderate to severe dumping episode. yikes.

I met with my surgeon on Friday.. I've completed all my tests and all my nutrition meetings as well as meeting the weight loss requirements for my insurance. We are officially submitting to insurance for approval and I was given a surgery date of January 16th 2020 (13 days before my birthday!) Fingers crossed all goes through

Ok, now im getting old...my body gets me up at my normal 5am dog walk even when it's the weekend, vacation, and most importantly when I'm sick. So now that I have more energy, my body wants to make sure I suffer even longer during the day when I have a cold! Damn being healthy again! (:D)
