Not much weight loss 😔

Recommended Posts

I am 14 months post op from a gastric bypass and I have only lost 72lbs!!! I have been at this weight about 6 months post op. I am in the gym 3-4 times a week since April. Lifting weights. And doing cardio. I am a vegan/vegetarian. I have lost inches, but not in numbers. I am all out of ideas on what to do to get me to lose some weight. I am now struggling with my nutrition intake from dieting so I have to basically up my calorie/protein intake. Has anyone else experienced this. Or is it just me 😔😔😔😒😒😒

It's not just you. I'm 6 1/2 months post-op and only lost 35 pounds and been stuck within the same 2 pounds for 2 months. I'm just waiting for this stall to end. I'm eating right, exercising, getting in Protein, and drinking Water. I don't get it.

So, your description of your workouts and the fact that you're losing inches tells me you're likely losing fat and gaining muscle. Muscle is more dense and takes up less space than fat. I read somewhere that one pound of fat is roughly the size of a small grapefruit; one pound of muscle is about the size of a tangerine. If you're losing inches, but maintaining weight, that means you're still getting healthier and losing fat, even if you're staying the same weight. It may be frustrating, but it is still really good for your health and your appearance.

how many calories are you averaging a day? Is it possible to cut back on them?

I’d be keen to hear mor about your calorie intake too. And Protein vs fats vs carbs...

many have success by kicking off some 16/8 “intermittent fasting” - last calorie containing food by sau 8pm, mo food each day until noon. So you get 16 hours of not investing any calorie-food at all, so you have no insulin in your system for about half that - insulin’s key purpose is to stop fat breakdown. I have seen a few here kick back into weight loss with this and it is pretty simple change... just an idea.

at less than 1000, you should still be losing weight, esp given your activity level. Definitely make sure you're getting enough Protein - but otherwise, I'd ask the dietitian or surgeon. I was at 1000 or slightly over at a year out, and I still lost weight (albeit very slowly) until I was around 18-20 months out. Are you still weighing, measuring, and logging everything you eat? (not trying to be critical here - just trying to figure out what might be going on)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
