Health Issues and exercise

Recommended Posts

I am wondering if there are other people how have health issues that make it hard to exercise. My problem is pain and fatigue which makes me not have the motivation to go and exercise. Anyone have a suggestion that would help me to get my exercise in and not feel bad after

Swimming... easier on the joints ! And I also suffer from chronic pain which fluctuates daily... on good days I walk and bad days I forgive myself and get my rest...as I lost a bunch of weight though , my energy increased and I had more good days than bad...

And that's just what you were looking to achieve, right? Keep moving forward, no matter how sliw, until you get where you want to go.💕😛🌺🍀🌸

Walking is the simplest form of exercise, maybe you can get up and walk a little.

Yep. When I started this journey at 287lbs, I was pretty much bed-ridden. Terrible shape. So I started a super low cal, low fat, low carb diet. And started walking in my house for 5 minutes at a time. Some days it was all I could do to make 5 minutes for the day. But slowly, the weight came off and my endurance increased.

It is not easy. But it does get better. Losing the weight, having the surgery, getting to normal weight, I exercise for 60 minutes a day about 6 days a week. I still walk. And then I do core exercises at home 2 days a week in addition to that. My pain has gone from a 7-9 down to a very manageable 3-4.

Is your pain something physical therapy could help? When I started, my exercise was walking on a treadmill and going to physical therapy for degenerative disk disease. After nine months, I just "graduated" from my physical therapist to a personal trainer and we are working on functional movement. Having an apt. with a trainer makes a big difference in motivating me to go exercise.

As you recover from surgery and eat more calories, you'll probably have more energy. Good luck!

Personal training. I've found when you spend $400 a month on something, you are very motivated to make use of it. Even when you are exhausted and fatigued.

You should not be fatigued after your surgery.

Do not exercise more than walking until you solve this issue. If your fatigue is related to your diet, then you have problems that exercising will make worse.

Make sure you are getting all the required nutrients such as Proteins and Water. If you are not, do not do anything strenuous. See your doctor or nutritionist.

I'm not sure what you are talking about but being fatigued right after surgery when you are eating around <500 calories a day sounds normal to me.

2 months of chronic fatigue is not normal, and not right. I would guess you are not getting the proper nutrition.

There's a lot more you need to know about a woman's health before you diagnose a woman's chronic fatigue as poor diet and I think your advice elsewhere that women should eat 600 calories a day for a year after surgery is dangerous.

Had to say it.

ok People, I am out from surgery 3 Years and the fatigue is from an illness I have, I was asking if anyone had any suggestions on how to be more motivated with exercise. It makes it harder when I have the fatigue.🤩🤩

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
