Questions about stalls! New here!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

This is my first post here. I am 7 weeks post op VSG. I stalled at two and a half weeks. Then at week 5 I began excercising and lost 7 pounds that week. Now last week I have lost nothing actually went up a pound. Is back to back stalls normal? I’m not sure what is going on. I take in 600-800 calories a day. I get at least 60 grams of Protein and 64 oz of Water. I am following my surgeons plan exactly. It gets discouraging. I thought this time would be the best time for my weight loss to go so well. I am down 33 pounds. I am very happy about that but I want to make the most of this time. Any advice would be appreciated!

Stalls are a normal, although discouraging, part of the process.

Yes I am almost 4 weeks post op. Last week and this week I was even up half a pound, and then again today, but then it seems to drop again the over next few days. My dr did say to stay off the scale daily (not that I listened). From everything I've read, it is all to be expected and so I am not worrying about it, just staying the course and following the plan. The weight will come off.

The hormones and what we put in our body, activity and stress levels are different during each month so are the scale results. Nothing wrong with stalling as long as you do your part the weight will come off but in waives.

Stall are going to happen, just focus on your Protein, Water and getting some exercise and it will pass. Hang in there and push forward....

DO NOT WEIGH EVERY DAY. IT WILL MAKE YOU CRAZY. Only weigh in once a week. stalls are normal. I stalled for three weeks then lost 7 lbs, then stalled again then lost 5

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
