Dog Walking Belt

Recommended Posts

I am going to be getting a RNY at the end of the month and have a question for you all. I love walking my dogs, but since I have 4 I use a fanny pack to hook my dogs up to. Will there be a problem with using that maybe a week or so after surgery? I haven't been able to ask my surgeon yet. I'll probably only have the day of the surgery to ask him and I doubt I will remember with all the other things on my mind.

Hmmm. Sounds to me like it would be painful for a week or two. After my bypass my abdomen was quite tender and going over bumps in the car hurt. Now, I realize that is not the same as having 4 dogs leashed to your belly, but, I think you'll be sore. Good luck with your surgery and recovery!

If you wear your abdominal binder it should be OK, and it will help you feel more secure as well......

Most of the incisions will be above your waist so it should be fine.

I have just one dog and I am still, at 5 weeks out unable to walk her because she is so big. Doc doesn't want to risk it because she pulls hard and the stress is more than 30 lbs.

Yeah, my lab is about 100 lbs...He really is a gentle giant though. So my husband gets to take him out for a bit. My other dogs however are anywhere between 13 and 20 lbs. Much easier to walk.

I would say bring a husband or a friend along in the beginning.

It really depends on the individual. Some people feel right as rain post surgery. Some people don't.

I fell right in the middle...it took me a week and a half to two weeks before i was able to walk my pitbull mix on my own.

I have 4 of my incisions right across my belly button line. I’m a week out and no way in heck would I want anything like that around my waist. I do wear a binder everyday an it has helped SOOOO much! I got mine at Lane Bryant. It never gets loose and stays put. Keeps everything nice and tight. And it’s smooth under my clothes. I had it for dressing up before. Now it’s everyday wear. I need to get another one.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
