I keep seeing you can have sugar

Recommended Posts

I hate sf products. I drank fairlife milk and yogurt for Protein.

It is very hard to find a non sf product. I also can't tolerate whey. It makes me gag.

I found a vegetarian Protein mix that I can tolerate but I mix it in strawberries and bananas to make my smoothies and that is sugar a fruit sugar. I love the new Protein Boost the only premade protein drink I really like. I used to drink the EAS protein but this is so much better. What happens when you eat sugar and not SF? Does it make you sick?

I had a sweet tooth and that is one of the reasons why I had to have the surgery. My sweet tooth led eventually over time to too much weight gain that then that lead to sugar diabetes. Diabetes is a terrible condition. I watched the effect of diabetes on my mother. She developed wounds on her feet. These were not heal because of diabetes. For 10 years before her death, she had to exercise great care to prevent her wounds from becoming infected. Many people with diabetes have their feet amputated. So sugar in a way is a journey down a deep dark death spiral.

After my RNY gastric bypass surgery, I lost the weight and I maintained the weight loss and part of the reason why I maintained that loss was because I avoid sugar (in all its many forms) like the plague. I rely on artificial sweeteners and no calorie natural sweeteners. So I guess my question to you is "Have you tried no or low calorie natural sweeteners such as Stevia?"

Artificial sweeteners give me Migraines so why can't you use sugars. I use Boost for a Protein Drink and it isn't sugar free.

What happens when you eat refined sugar?

You gain weight and it causes health issues. Where are you are researching that refined sugar is ok after bariatrics for weight loss?. You may want to consult with your dietician and do more research on weight loss surgery.

Fruit as sugar – Is it on your plan? If its allowed in small amounts, great.

This is not about taste it’s about getting healthy. Tolerance, if you are vomiting try other products. consult your Dr to make sure it’s not Gerd or a post op medical issue.

Your success rate may be better with procedures that re routes your intestines. You will get dumping syndrome (sick) when you eat sugar. With the sleeve its less likely.

Is boost on your list as a bariatric protein drink? What does your plan from your surgeon’s office list?

Boost vs Quest protein

Boost 240 calories, 33 carbohydrates 23 sugars 15 grams protein

Quest 110 calories, 2 grams carbohydrates, 1-gram sugar 23 grams protein.

I don't tolerate that type of Protein only vegetarian protein. I had a lap band hand lost over 100 pounds and maintained it until the band failed. I know what to eat, and don't do sugar very much. I'll save further questions for my doctor.

I get headaches from artificial sweeteners. I would rather use less table sugar than use sf products. Plus, I've never tasted an artificial sweetener that was good.

Is boost from whey? I haven't drank one Protein Shake, except before surgery, that I liked. I put banana and strawberry in it.

After surgery I couldnt even stand the smell of whey. I prepared one after surgery and took a swallow and it triggered my gag reflex.

I can’t do whey any longer since surgery. I use plant based Protein only otherwise I get very bad digestive issues. I also avoid sugar and chemical artificial sweeteners (since before surgery). Although I use Stevia, I prefer Truvia. I cannot tell the difference between Truvia and sugar.

I think you’ll find that when you ask questions here you will get informed answers from folks who have your best interest at heart. They are not trying to hurt your feelings or pass judgement. They are trying to answer the question you asked with supporting info that will help you succeed.

And for some people a little natural fruit sugar is okay, many others it sends them down the "slippery slope" towards total non- -compliance. O am 7.5 months out , have not dumped yet, that's a point in my favot, but I am far behind you guys when it comes to diet advancement. Snuck 5 cheezit crackers from Tomkittens bowl, chewed them to a mush, so far so good but they didn't tast3 as thrilling as I was planning for. He can heve the rest of the box÷ 8n the Bad Old Days I would have arm wrestled him for, them÷ And now what some else said "NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS THINNER FEELS!!

I think it has more to do with it leading to bad habits - sugar is an extremely addictive substance, and the more it is added into diet, the worse one's diet tends to get. A little every now and then is fine, I'm sure - I personally indulge from time to time. BUT. I know if I have it regularly I will end up right back where I started.

I also think some tend to not tolerate it well after surgery. My husband (who also had surgery) is more sensitive to foods than I am, so he has to more closely watch what he eats.

Just be smart about it. Listen to yourself, and keep in mind what is best for yourself. (:

You can use real sugar, of course (if you don't dump on it). Most users on here don't want to use it though.

I was concerned about the "dumping" syndrome. Does that happen with the sleeve? I usually buy a one pound of sugar and it lasts me about a year unless I'm making hummingbird food. I make my "faux" sweet tea, I make it with caffeine free tea and a 1/3 cup of sugar in a gallon of tea. Then I pour a Tervis mug of it and add ice all day. It makes me happy. Also makes me feel like I'm drinking sweet tea, the drink of the south. Sugar is not high on my list, now I can fall into a room of warm bread and disappear. I've been successful with the lap band until it was removed. Do I follow the same diet? I lost 100 pounds with the band.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
