Been reading along on stuff, thought I'd offer my personal experience on my milestones. I had RNY on 6/11.

Urinating: I almost got a catheter put in because I couldn't go, but finally by the morning of day 2 I was at least pushing out enough to be out of the danger zone. I'd say it was 3-4 days before things felt normal down there though.

Passing gas: day 2 was when this finally started, at least a little.

BM: day 5. My first was a miserable experience because I hadn't been taking enough stool softener, but once I corrected, things have been much better!

Tastes post-op: sugar and sweet things sort of terrify me on a subconscious level, and not just because I fear dumping syndrome. Sweet things also don't taste nearly as good to me now. I can't have much for flavor syrups in my shakes anymore. Most else hasn't changed yet, at least for what I've tried.

Incidentally, I'm constantly terrified I'm stretching out my pouch too fast, but on the other hand, I know it can't stay 1 ounce forever, so I just have to get used to constantly feeling full for a while! ☺

What about going number 2? They want us to poo and fart before they let us go home. How long did it take for yall?

Well I would have been there a loooooong time. 8 days. No I’m not kidding and I didn’t take anything and I wasn’t eating much so no discomfort. Everything is normal now.

Thats my fear. That I'm drinking too much Water and I'm already stretching my pouch. It's terrifying me a little but my dr came in and said I'm doing good. Just being paranoid I guess. How are you feeling?

Sadly, I ate dinner too quickly yesterday. Was told by doc I could eat salmon and broccoli as part of my purées diet, just chew well. I had 2 oz. salmon and 4 small broccoli crowns. I chewed really well (30-40 times per bite). But, I must have gone too quickly or maybe that was too much food. It was awful, painful and I nearly vomited. Lesson learned. [emoji30]🥴🤢
Oh no! Hope your next meal goes better.

I had my first follow up with the surgeon. Everything looks good and he's pretty happy. He busted me on liquids though. He doesn't want me to count Protein Shakes as part of my liquids, so I wasn't getting to 64 ounces. I don't feel dehydrated, but now I've got to work on drinking more. Funny contrast to Bullet's being worried about too much Water.< br>

:1406_writing_hand_tone2:Hi All, Last night I read the entire thread! I am getting anxious for my surgery on the 24th! I have been doing very well on the full liquid diet I have been on since June 13th. I have always been good with Water so I always drink a minimum of 66 oz. a day. I have been very tired though. It seems like my batteries deplete at 8 PM nearly every night. I wake up at 5:30 AM and by 8 I am literally falling asleep on the couch or in bed. Has anyone else experienced this? I still drink jasmine iced green tea (the Dr. said if I gave up coffee he won't take away my tea) I mix it with crystal lite lemonade so it is like an Arnold Palmer! It tastes amazing and has been one of my lifesavers! I also have never liked liquid water flavorings, does anyone know of any other good powder ones? :776_two_hearts:

I have said this many times and it should be a pinned post somewhere....You are detoxing from Carbohydrates and you will feel like crap for approximately 2 weeks. Once your body recognizes that the carb storage has been depleted, you will then go into ketosis and start burning body fat for energy. You will begin to feel much better, most likely better than when you were eating tons of carbs. This is also why it is important to keep up with your Protein intake, so you don't start to lose lean muscle mass. Feel free to google "Keto Flu". Hang in there, you'll get through it. Keep drinking Water and protein and if you're getting headaches, replenish your electrolytes. I drink some pedialyte from time to time.

Had my 2 week follow up. They are recommending I take a 4th week of short term disability for work because I still get dizzy and tired and they want me used to eating purees. I have mixed feelings about it. I miss work but I probably do need a little more time

Please utilize this time to heal and get better. Fainting, getting dizzy and etc. is not nice, you'd rather be at home going through that. Work will be there and we only get one you.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
