Under 25 and choosing this?!

Recommended Posts

I am 19 (was 18 during surgery) and I understand what you mean; pay no mind to it, though. No one should be giving their opinions to your life weight loss decisions, especially if they’ve never cared enough to help you in your past weight loss attempts. You do you! I feel great after my weight loss surgery (I’m 2 Weeks Post-Op / Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy) and if you’re serious about getting surgery, you will too! 💜

I know a few girls who had surgery at 18... They wanted a better life for themselves before they went to university

And on the Obverse of That Coin- we have Me- who refused to Die Obese and had RNY surgery at 72 years, 8 months and 10 days last 5th September. When we come to the point, When We fear Surgery less than continuing as we Are, the Time is Right÷ No matter what our Current Age Is!

So, I'm 23 and set to have RNY on May 30th. I've never second guessed my decision for a moment, but for my family and close friends that I have told, they seem to equate youth with the ability to just diet and exercise to combat obesity (trust me...been there, done that)--stating, "But, like...have you tried just eating healthy and exercising? You're not even 25, and this is like major and a lifelong commitment."
I'm sure many of you, no matter the age, have experienced this. I guess I wish the stigma was better for all of us. For anyone that is under 30, do you feel similarly?
Until all the negative people have walked in your shoes pay no attention to them. I hope everything is going great for you.

I am waiting for approval from insurance and then surgery. At 57 I just quit caring what people will think.

I'm a bit late here, but I got sleeved 8 days before my 19th birthday. Do I struggle? Yeah. But it's still the best decision I've made in my life. I'm able to move easier. I can sleep better. I can SHOP. Its completely changed my life already.

Why should I keep living in pain and getting worse and worse just because I'm young? I was dieting since I was 12. I had tried lots of stuff. I was ready.

F them.

Just tell them it only gets worse as you get older!

I was skinny as a young person and managed to gain 100 lbs from when I graduated high school.

Most everyone gains weight as they age but some of us do it with gusto (raising hand). If you are starting out overweight, unless you get it under control through either diet and exercise or WLS (and diet and exercise) it will only get worse.

I wish I had been able to keep weight off when I would lose it but it never happened and naturally I got heavier and heavier as I aged.

Only you know what is right for you. Whatever you choose to do, I wish you success.
