Sharp pain in belly after I swallow, but disapates quickly

Recommended Posts

My surgery was 5 days ago and I am intermittently experiencing sharp pain after I swallow Water. I can feel the liquid descending in my body, sharp pain for a couple seconds and then it subsides very quickly. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes it happens to me. 11 days out. I think it happens bc I swallow too much at a time. I find that if I space out smaller sips it doesn't happen.

Yes, when I take too big of a sip, I get the same pain.

Thanks all! Thought I was taking small sips, evidentially not small enough! Even smaller sips does the trick!

Yep, this happened to me beginning upon my very first sip of Water after surgery. It lasted at least two weeks for me if I remember correctly. It was very disconcerting but the doctor examined me before I left the hospital and said I was ok but to call him if there was any change. It was a horrible sharp pain. So I feel ya!!! It will get better!!!

I had my surgery two days ago and this is exactly what I’m having. It almost takes my breath away and I have to do some breathing like I’m in labor! I know it’s only temporary. I think I need to drink room temperature or warm liquids cuz cold liquids are making it worse. My surgeon said this is very common since my insides are all sore and inflamed and once healed it’ll go away.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
