My surgery was 5 days ago and I am intermittently experiencing sharp pain after I swallow water. I can feel the liquid descending in my body, sharp pain for a couple seconds and then it subsides very quickly. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes it happens to me. 11 days out. I think it happens bc I swallow too much at a time. I find that if I space out smaller sips it doesn't happen.

Yes, when I take too big of a sip, I get the same pain.

yes. your sleeve is still very swollen. smaller sips. that didnt go away fir two weeks with me. im 1 month out.

Thanks all! Thought I was taking small sips, evidentially not small enough! Even smaller sips does the trick!

You just had your stomach cut in half.. its injured.. be patient with it, itll get better.

and room temp is best. too hot or cold can irritate too. good luck!

Yep, this happened to me beginning upon my very first sip of water after surgery. It lasted at least two weeks for me if I remember correctly. It was very disconcerting but the doctor examined me before I left the hospital and said I was ok but to call him if there was any change. It was a horrible sharp pain. So I feel ya!!! It will get better!!!

I had my surgery two days ago and this is exactly what I’m having. It almost takes my breath away and I have to do some breathing like I’m in labor! I know it’s only temporary. I think I need to drink room temperature or warm liquids cuz cold liquids are making it worse. My surgeon said this is very common since my insides are all sore and inflamed and once healed it’ll go away.
