I'm in Ireland and Bariatric Surgery has only recently become generally available. I will be one of the first to have the procedure in a newly established Clinic. I'm 62, 5'10" and weigh 232 lbs. I developed a neurological illness in my 40's and piled on weight. Up to then, I had been slim. I want my skinny self back !!! My daughter is soo against me having the surgery - she says I'll never again be able to enjoy a meal and will miss out on so much, skinny isn't everything (she's skinny !!), etc., etc., etc. To me - Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels !!! I still have my skinny clothes in my loft, in the hope that they'll see daylight again. What do you guys think ?? Do any of you ever regret having the surgery ??

My mom is against me having it too! She says the same thing...I’ll never be able to “enjoy” meals again. From what it sounds like we will have to change our eating habits but eventually can enjoy most anything just not in large quantities. I’m due for surgery in April!

Meals are extremely enjoyable, event more so when life is enjoyable. Absolutely no regrets on my end.

But each surgery carries risks of complications, some of which many of us never see but some people will. Research the type and surgeon extensively to become comfortable with the entire process.

Good luck 🍀

Good luck on your weight loss journey. I am 4 months post-op sleeve and do not regret any of it. I've already gotten rid of GERD (Acid Reflux) and sleep Apnea (no more CPAP) and I feel better.

Thanks guys ..... I really appreciate you taking time to reply to me. Very reassuring, too. I'm still in two minds - because of my daughter's reaction. Can you eventually eat anything - albeit in moderation ?? Can you have fizzy drinks ?? Caffeine ?? At the moment Caffeine and nicotine are my staple diet .......

I also have gerd. Been on prevacid for years and am on cpap. Sounds a lot like you. Its good to hear the surgery improved your gerd and sleep apnea. I'm still researching the sleeve and have 35 # to LOSE. 5'6 203# how about you if you don't mind me asking

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
