MimsDub got a reaction from SleeveToBypass2023 in I Want To See Before & After Pics! (Cont'd)I am sooo scared that I won't lose any weight at all .......... I have to take a cocktail of drugs for a neurological condition - which started my weight gain in the first place !!! That would be my worst nightmare - to go through surgery and gain nothing ........

MimsDub got a reaction from GreenTealael in What should I do .........Hi Bariatric Friends ......
I would like to lose approx. 28 kgs. I have just lost 9.5 kgs. in 10 weeks with Slimming World.
I have been discussing Bariatric Sleeve surgery but my daughter is so against me having it done. She says that I will never again be able to enjoy a family meal or a meal out .... that I am not heavy enough to have Bariatric Surgery .... that I can lose this weight by watching my food intake and not necessarily having a bariatric sleeve, which is quite drastic.
I have a neurological auto-immune illness, which has caused my weight gain - I was very thin until the onset of this illness. I am on lots of (weight inducing) medication. I am going to be taking this medication for life.
I am now wondering whether Bariatric Surgery or basic diet change is the way to go. There is no guarantee that I will lose weight even if I become anorexic because of my illness and the associated medication. Would you recommend surgery or just diet management for my situation. If I could get my jaws wired for a time I could find out if I'm going to lose enough weight to make me happy ......
Thanks in advance for your advice ....... I'm very confused !!

MimsDub reacted to DanaC84 in Is it normal to .......To lose slow and/or to have stalls ?!
Frustratingly , YES!!
Best advice given over and over but the hardest to implement : don’t compare yourselves with others. Those starting at a higher BMI lose quicker, sex, age or hormonal stage in life all play a role and it varies greatly from person to person.
I also read when we reach a previous set point in our weight our body was previously comfy at it will try to stay there. Lots of theories out there on what you should do. But if your surgery is new and your following your surgeons plan just keep on keepin’ on. (Imho) -
MimsDub reacted to DanaC84 in Is it normal to .......I’ve read so many posts recently asking if particular experience, symptoms, feelings were normal. I thought we could have an area where you can know you are not alone! I know there’s a lot of lurkers that may have questions also but don’t ask
I’ll start:
1) Yes! It is totally normal to have second thoughts and feelings of anxiousness prior to surgery. It is major surgery that is going to affect the way you live for the rest of your life. I would question it if you DIDN’T experience a little of both
2) I also think it’s normal to have the feeling afterwards of “what have I done to myself ?” You are not only a hormonal mess afterwards but you’ve mostly likely just lost your source of comfort. It make takes weeks or months to come to grips with it. Or you may experience the complete opposite and have total elation!! That’s ok too !
It does get better ?? Hang in there ? -
MimsDub reacted to NYJenn in I Believe It Was Worth ItBest decision ever! I only wish I had done it sooner. I’m 115 lbs lighter, sleep better, feel better, laugh more, better self esteem, love shopping.! ❤️❤️❤️ -

MimsDub reacted to ummyasmin in I Believe It Was Worth ItBest. Thing. Ever. Bloimin' hard work but boy is the payoff worth it. Everyone around me is commenting positively and I love catching sight of myself in windows etc.
Mostly I just love being free of the obsessive drive to eat (crap) food all the time. Its such a mental relief as well as physical one.

Best decision ever made and allowed me to make changes to live healthier. It was a year yesterday and I am eternally grateful to have made the decision and continue to follow what I need to -
MimsDub reacted to GreenTealael in I Believe It Was Worth ItYou can see it floating around, and it may just be stress of the season, influx of new accounts or the contagion that fear breeds.
Negativity.
Everyone seems constantly afraid of something and it becomes attached to surgery/weightloss because that's what this forums is for.
General fear of failure, anticipation of regain, denial of insurance, surgeon error, marital status, auxiliary medical issues, etc...
Did anyone really believe this was a great pathdecision, choice, etc from the start and is still standing by it? Can we share some (realistic) positivity for people who need to know it's totally worth it?

Hi,
im new to this site and to having gastric sleeve surgery. Just finished all Insurance mandated testing and getting ready to schedule surgery. Looking for insight on surgery and some positive feedback of surgery. I’ve heard enough of the negatives of surgery. I am very much looking forward to surgery as I’ve been heavy since 4th grade! Look forward to hearing from other people who know what I’m going to go through!

MimsDub got a reaction from GreenTealael in MimsDubThank you, Green Tealael. I know my Team are good - in fact the best in Ireland - so I'm confident that they will do a good job. Congratulations on your weight loss .... 94 lbs. - WOW !! You go girl !!! That's the kind of inspiration I need !!

MimsDub got a reaction from GreenTealael in MimsDubI'm in Ireland and Bariatric Surgery has only recently become generally available. I will be one of the first to have the procedure in a newly established Clinic. I'm 62, 5'10" and weigh 232 lbs. I developed a neurological illness in my 40's and piled on weight. Up to then, I had been slim. I want my skinny self back !!! My daughter is soo against me having the surgery - she says I'll never again be able to enjoy a meal and will miss out on so much, skinny isn't everything (she's skinny !!), etc., etc., etc. To me - Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels !!! I still have my skinny clothes in my loft, in the hope that they'll see daylight again. What do you guys think ?? Do any of you ever regret having the surgery ??

MimsDub reacted to skinny4kids in 4wks post. Have not lost in 2 weeksAnyone experienced this? I’m going in to my 4th week post op. 4 weeks Monday. I have not lost weight in 2 weeks. Getting really depressed.
Dr. Will check for thyroid issues next. Anyone dealt with this? -
MimsDub reacted to audjoc in 3 months post OP and 5 weeks pregnantCongratulations!! I have not experienced this before but I know MANY women who have been pregnant and not gained any weight, some that were overweight even loss. I would definitely talk to your nutritionist and your dietitian as you want to ensure that you are getting what you need for a healthy pregnancy. I would think that with a healthy, balanced diet, proper vitamins and exercise that you can have a healthy, successful pregnancy with little to no weight gain. Please keep up posted. Again, CONGRATULATIONS!!
