    Finally moving along

Hi Mikeyy, I'm in Ireland ..... and I don't need anything like the amount of paperwork you need. Why do you have to have a Sleep Study ? Best of luck. MimsDubs

You have just hit a plateau. Keep going and you WILL lose that last few pounds. It is always the last half stone that is the hardest to lose .... persevere and it will happen. The last few stubborn pounds will disappear ..... Guaranteed !!! You have done so well - you should be really proud of yourself !!!
  3. Hi Bariatric Friends ...... I would like to lose approx. 28 kgs. I have just lost 9.5 kgs. in 10 weeks with Slimming World. I have been discussing Bariatric Sleeve surgery but my daughter is so against me having it done. She says that I will never again be able to enjoy a family meal or a meal out .... that I am not heavy enough to have Bariatric Surgery .... that I can lose this weight by watching my food intake and not necessarily having a bariatric sleeve, which is quite drastic. I have a neurological auto-immune illness, which has caused my weight gain - I was very thin until the onset of this illness. I am on lots of (weight inducing) medication. I am going to be taking this medication for life. I am now wondering whether Bariatric Surgery or basic diet change is the way to go. There is no guarantee that I will lose weight even if I become anorexic because of my illness and the associated medication. Would you recommend surgery or just diet management for my situation. If I could get my jaws wired for a time I could find out if I'm going to lose enough weight to make me happy ...... Thanks in advance for your advice ....... I'm very confused !!
  4. Aawwee, thanks Girls - your inputs are very, very welcome and much appreciated. Unfortunately, my Sleep Specialist of almost 20 years has just retired - so I am going to be meeting her replacement at my next appointment, in May. This new doctor doesn't know me like my previous medic did. I have no idea how approachable she is as I don't know anybody else who is attending her. I had a wonderful relationship with my previous specialist. I will certainly discuss weight with her when I meet her. I'm putting off having the surgery until after June anyway, as I am due to go to Canada to visit my son and his family. I want to be in the whole of my health to deal with a pair of high-energy little girls !!! As regards my slim daughter ..... I agree with Green Tealeal .... she is not a medic but in fairness to her - she worries about me and is really supportive when I go to SW and do lose any amount of weight, no matter how small. But ..... Nobody but us fatties understand how traumatic being overweight is. Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels !!! Thanks again for all your advice - keep it coming, please !!
  5. Thanks ItsABearDance, However, the Clinic I attended is a new facility and are pushing the idea of gastric surgery at the moment - to get the clinic up and running. While the criteria for surgery is BMI must be 35 or above. My BMI is approx. 32 - but nobody checked. The fact that I expressed interest in surgery was enough to get me an appointment with the whole team in less than one week. I was passed straight away and was offered a date in the next couple of weeks - but I decided to defer it until July because I have a lot happening between now and then.
  6. I'm in Ireland and Bariatric Surgery has only recently become generally available. I will be one of the first to have the procedure in a newly established Clinic. I'm 62, 5'10" and weigh 232 lbs. I developed a neurological illness in my 40's and piled on weight. Up to then, I had been slim. I want my skinny self back !!! My daughter is soo against me having the surgery - she says I'll never again be able to enjoy a meal and will miss out on so much, skinny isn't everything (she's skinny !!), etc., etc., etc. To me - Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels !!! I still have my skinny clothes in my loft, in the hope that they'll see daylight again. What do you guys think ?? Do any of you ever regret having the surgery ??

    Pre Op diet

As far as I know - just cut out carbs., eat plenty of protein, cut out caffeine and fizzy drinks, any fatty foods ....... Basically - that's it as I understand it !!! Thanks Girls .... I'll just see what they want, be a good girl and do what I'm told !!!
  8. Thanks SleevednowAk. Unfortunately, I will be taking these meds. for life. Hoping against hope that I will regain my slim figure from before I started taking these meds.

You are looking HOT !!! Well done - you're a shadow of your former self !!!
  10. I am sooo scared that I won't lose any weight at all .......... I have to take a cocktail of drugs for a neurological condition - which started my weight gain in the first place !!! That would be my worst nightmare - to go through surgery and gain nothing ........

I Believe It Was Worth It

Yeah - Thanks all you guys for posting. I feel more able to make the decision now - although I would just kill to have somebody make it for me !!! Keep your posts coming ...... and thanks again !!!

Thanks guys ..... I really appreciate you taking time to reply to me. Very reassuring, too. I'm still in two minds - because of my daughter's reaction. Can you eventually eat anything - albeit in moderation ?? Can you have fizzy drinks ?? Caffeine ?? At the moment Caffeine and nicotine are my staple diet .......

    Last weigh in

Second timer ?? Do you mean that you had the op already and are now going for it a second time ?? Did it not work the first time ?? Sorry if I sound ignorant but I'm in Ireland and the procedure is only recently generally available. I'm thinking strongly of having it done - but my daughter is sooo against it. To me, nothing tastes as good as skinny feels !!! I have a neurological illness which has caused my overweight and I'm so fed up with slimming clubs and diets that I want to have Bariatric surgery and just get on with it. What would others advise ..... Do any of you regret having the surgery ??

    Last weigh in

OMG - Trying to lose weight AND quit smoking !! Tall ask that !! I met my team yesterday and they advised me to quit smoking - but it's not a decider, thank God coz I couldn't do it right now. Why do you have to lose weight pre-op ?? If you could lose weight like that - you would probably not need surgery !!
