I just had surgery a few days ago and I am having guilt and regret. I am under a lot of pain especially in my throat, and my chest and my stomach skin area and insides. When I was in the OR I was having major anxiety and wanted to call it quits but felt too deep into it to call it quits. I am having a hard time taking in liquids and if i don't drink the required 5 cups, I will not be discharged today.

I am trying to drink and walk but the pain is not letting me right now.

I heard the nurse talk to another nurse calling me a big baby. I usually have high pain tolerance but my stomach feels all types of messed up.

Any ideas? help? please.

I would report the nurse! I work at a hospital and that would not be tollerated here.

Each person is different and will react differently. I hope you will feel better quickly. I had my sleeve in Mexico, and there was not a "drink this much" rule. Hopefully you'll get to go home and rest.

I felt the exact same way. I was absolutely miserable. It didn't help things that I started my period the day of surgery. I had so much pain I couldn't even get up to walk. It was horrible. I had surgery on March 11 and I do feel tons better. Still pretty sore in the stomach, but much better than in the beginning. Just rest and take your pain meds. And sip your Water as often as you can. Good luck! You can do this!

I agree with Calgalintx, I also work in a hospital and talking about patients in such a way is against policy in most places. You should report her if you can or ask for a different nurse to be assigned to your care team.

Take some deep breaths, you'll recover as quickly as your body is able, try to work on easing some of that anxiety you're feeling right now. Do as much water/walking as you are able, the walking will help relieve pressure you are feeling. Request more pain meds if the pain makes you unable to walk. Sip Water as slowly and as frequently as you are able so you're not trying to play catch-up when it's time for discharge. Most importantly, talk to your Dr. to let them know you are struggling.

#1 I would talk to a patient advocate about the nurse. They should not be talking about their patients in that manor. #2 Just do the best you can. They can't expect more than your best. It does take time to be able to drink your Water. Hang in there, it really does get better. Oh and as for your water, sip, sip, sip.🙂🙂

Just had my surgery March 20. I had regards last night like you this liquid diet is getting me. It gets better with time. I take a sip of Water every 10 minutes. Even if it's walking in place at your bedside that's a start. Good luck.[emoji890]️[emoji890]️[emoji890]️

Thank you all for your responses I am sorry I didn't respond was finally discharged today. I am feeling pretty exhausted but also did a long long long commute in NYC from the hospital to my home. I just hope with time it gets better and I can stick to my diet. Anyone else feels starving? I am taking in a lot of liquid and tomorrow will begin my liquid Proteins, when I smell food my stomach is growling. It is a weird feeling.

Remember at your stage, what feels like hunger could be the st9mach acid that, hasn't quieted down or simple inside swelling. Your body is saying" Iliana, WHAT did you do to ME? Why did you let those doctors do THAT? " see your body does not see the benefits yet, it only knows it's been HURT and it is afraid now. You will become fine as days go by, but right now remember you just had your major surgery, they don't call it "minor" because it has so many changes to it. Keep Fluid going in even if it's only a little bit every 15 minutes, it will mount up.

Also what feels like things falling apart may be only things falling finally into place!

Thank you today I did awesome with Water, I am basically living on water because I am so tired of Protein Shakes. So idk how to get my Protein amount. Also did some juicing with carrot, celery, cucumber, and beats. Is this okay? and you're right I know it will pay off, and it was a lot of work put into this surgery. I know in a few months I will feel amazing just right now is the hard part. If I could at least get to the mushy stage I'll have a lot more to work with.

Hang in there, and be patient with your new anatomy, and yourself. I too, just had surgery. 3 days ago! I had to drink a certain amount before I could leave the hospital. Walking even when you don't feel like it will help with the gas pain. Are they giving you pain and antinausea pills? You got this! Just hang tight.

I just saw your post about juicing. Number one, ask your team. Veggies may be too riugh on your new tummy, and two, there's not a lot of Protein in veggie juice. They want us focusing on Water, then protein. Good luck.

That is true I think I'll hold off on the juicing for a while. I am not taking in much Protein I am so sick of the Protein Shakes think I'll buy flavorless protein so I can add to broths and my Water. They did give me some I woke up with the worst gas pain, are you out the hospital?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
