I am scheduled for bypass on 3/8. I am wondering after 6 weeks are you able to drink Water faster than right after surgery? I am not able to stop and drink every 15 minuets to be sure I get my water in. I am hoping that by 6 weeks postop I can drink more at one time so I will not have to drink as often. I know everyone is different. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I guess you could, but it'll be uncomfortable as you'll be putting too much into your stomach at one time.

Your ability to drink Water will get much better as time goes on. However, in the beginning, yes, you will need to sip constantly - it will HURT if you drink too much too fast! By 6 weeks post op you will be able to drink MUCH easier, and even gulp a bit if you're like me.

I'm a gulper - I just seem to forget all the time and chug. I'm 4 weeks post-op now, and I can gulp about 3 - 4 mouthfuls (prob about 4 ounces). Sometimes I'll get an "uh oh!" feeling in my stomach where it feels like the liquid is coming up again a bit, or is sitting at the top of my stomach or something, and I'll have to spit out any I still have in my mouth. I seem to be incapable of takinga single sip. It's never been painful, though.

I have the same problem and the dr did an endoscopy and found a hiatal hernia. I keep on having food come up also and it burns my throat from the acid coming up. Keep an albuterol inhaler close by because the acid literally burns my throat and I cant breathe it's very scary.

Ouch! Did you have issues with GERD or stomach acid prior to surgery?

So I'm 6 months post op and I never ever had any issue with Water. Or Protein Drinks. Heck I got a 13oz one in under a half hour the day after surgery

You will eventually be able to drink Water much faster than you can now. I'm almost 1 year out, and every once in a while, I still have pain when I take too big of drinks though. Just be careful and listen to your body. It'll let you know.

Yes I have always had problems with acid reflux, but I was on 20 mg twice a day. I never had it coming up on me in the middle of the night until I had the sleeve. They are going to fix my hernia at the same time they do the bypass. I'll have all my prerequisites done by July. I'll keep you posted if you want.

I get the same pain, especially in the morning if I've taken my Vitamins late the night before.

I hope you feel better after the bypass I know how uncomfortable, energy sucking, and just painful GERD can be.

I was a gulper, but now I have to be mindful about the amount of Water I drink. It was difficult in the beginning but it has improved over time. I'm almost 4 months post op and I still have some trouble getting all my water in. Just go slow and just sip.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
