Has anyone in this forum used the Trim Away pills after surgery? I was sleeves April 2017 and I am gaining my weight back 😢 I have ordered the Trim Away pills from Bariatric Pal they are suppose to suppress your appetite and I don’t think they are working for me because I’m hungry a hour after taking the pills and drinking my Meal Replacement shake. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Any suggestions?

I have not used that particular brand, BUT, my surgeon did prescribe me phentermine (sp?), and I found that helped tremendously. I understand not wanting to go to a pill, but if it works, it works. I support whichever way you go. :)

Have you tried tracking what you eat to see where your slips may be? I find there are always hidden calories. I dont even like eating out anymore.

Your not alone in having a weight gain after a year or more. I'm a sleeve four and a half years out. I've had to work off a regain. This is just a set back. You can get back on track. You can get your body back in weight loss mode without being dependant on pills.

My two cents on pills:

Pills are not long term sustainable for weight loss. Majority of them don't work. Phentermine has side effects and most people gain weight once the prescription is over.

Weight loss and maintaining is work. There are no shortcuts.

some things to try:

  • Log your food and stick to your weight loss calories and macros for the day
  • You are over a year out. Get rid of the shakes. Real whole foods will keep you feeling more satiated.
  • Sleeves can consume more food years out. Eat more veggies with your Protein to fill the extra space and keep your calories down. It will help with hunger
  • Spread meals out 5 to 6 meals a day
  • Get temptation food out of the house
  • Keep healthy options for sweet and salty cravings in the house
  • find counselor or therapist

You are over a year out ....Drinking shakes is one of the reasons you are experiencing hunger.

Yes, I drink meal replacement shakes/ Herbalife in the morning or for dinner when I don’t want to indulge in bad food. I am more of a Breakfast person thing anything I like to eat pancakes, waffles etc.

You are maintaining right? Can I ask how much of a gain you are wanting to take off?

I hope I am wrong in understanding what your meals look like. I'm a bit confused and concerned. Is this your food instructions by your surgical team? This is only an estimate below. I have no Idea of what an actual day of food looks like for you.

  • I looked up Herbalife shakes 15 grams Protein 120 calories
  • 2 Eggo waffles 5 grams protein and 190 calories 27 grams carbohydrates.

This is only 620 calories per day and 40 grams of protein.

I agree with @Healthy_life, the key to maintenance isn't pills and meal replacement shakes (especially from shady MLM companies). It's finding a long term sustainable plan that works for you.

We are all individuals, so there is no one solution.

You love breakfast, great! Protein waffles, protein pancakes, sugar free Syrup. You want "real" pancakes, great, make yourself a small serving on Sunday mornings, or go all out once a month, with the chocolate chip and whip cream kind.

Are you the slippery slope type? Can't have one potato chip or you will eat the whole bag? Great, then know you absolutely cannot have those items around, complete ban. But maybe you can just have an occasional square of chocolate in the evening and be done with it, so you can indulge, but stay on plan.

Do you just generally have a hard time reigning it in, and you snack or graze? Well then work it off, burn those excess calories. As long as the excess calories aren't extreme, run them off, or swim them off, or bike them off.

Whatever you do, diet pills aren't a solution, and neither is anything Herbalife sells.

@Healthy_life Lol that’s not what my actual day of food looks like. I am Court Clerk so I am always very busy at work and it’s all fast food around my Courthouse. In the morning, I would make me a Herbal Life shake and 2 boiled eggs or oatmeal, for snack I will snack on trail mix, for lunch it’s a meal prep option, I snack on trail mix or fruit and for dinner I’ll have a herbal life shake and I might nibble on whatever I cook for dinner for my family. This is not exact some days. I feel like my sleeve is stretched, I don’t have that restriction no more that I use to have.😢
I choose herbal life Protein Shakes because they are Meal Replacements when I am unable to get my hands on healthy foods. I have been successful with Herbal Life, that’s how i lost the weight to get my surgery. I just found out about BariatricPal last week and I have ordered Protein chips, meal replacement shakes and a few meals. I also purchased the Trim Away pills because the reviews were great, the pills are suppose to suppress your appetite. I have also downloaded MyFitnessPal today and I love it, thank you. Tonight I have been reading about slider foods and from what I’m reading, I have been really eating a lot of slider foods. So I gotta get it together.

Do you have any suggestions in regards to the kind of products to purchase from BariatricPal?

Whew. Thanks for giving me a better idea of what your eating. I understand meal replacement on the run. Many sites sell products marked to bariatric patients. Shop around and compare prices before you buy.

An eleven pound weight bounce is manageable. I maintain a ten pound weight bounce. When the scale moves up. I go back into weight loss mode to get it back down to 130's

Your not alone. Most sleeve feel less restriction year+ out. Its normal. Know that your stomach has not stretched back to its original size.** (revisions are rare. If you think it's stretched and you need a revision contact your surgeon to get it diagnosed)**

Now that you can consume more food, Its finding ways to fill the extra space without going over your calories/macros to maintain/lose weight . It's also finding foods that keep you feeling less hungry. Honestly, real food is how I manage the extra sleeve capacity/hunger.

I hope you find what works for you.

As you can tell, I'm not a fan of proceed replacement products. To each their own.

Products that break down rapidly or liquids don't keep me full. (example Protein Shakes, Soups, chips) Items that have more bulk help with hunger. I keep Quest bars in my car for quick food on the run. (cost effective and easy to find locally)

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
