My RNY is scheduled for feb 5. I have back to back cruises scheduled in June so I’ve been saving money for new clothes. I started thinking that I am going to just buy the minimum for the cruises and continue to save for a reward wardrobe later. My reward for reaching my goal is going to be an appt with a personal stylist at Nordstrom’s. I’m still working on coming up with rewards for smaller goals. My goal is to lose 135 pounds. I was thinking rewards at 50 & 100 pounds lost then goal reward. Any suggestions?

Hi!!!

I would suggest not buying a lot of stuff, just staples you love and are interchangeable in your wardrobe, think capsule closet, otherwise you risk lamenting the loss of clothing that you just bought or taking it to a tailor to have resized $$$$$$$$$$$$$

I very excitedly replaced my entire stock of clothing half way through my journey (necessary but short sighted - don't be like me) however I'm a tailor so I edit the best items.

Once at goal, go crazy.

I too believe in rewards, but I too do not want to keep spending on clothes that will be so short lived. Try rewarding yourself with spa days or an overnight trip somewhere not too far from home.. I am buying stuff, but stuff a few sizes smaller only because I liked it so much and I will wear it in a month or so. But I believe those items may be short lived too. I will find out soon enough!

You are right. I’m going to be able to closet shop for a while. My cruises will be just 4 months after my surgery. I have no clue where my weight could possibly be by then. I see people on here that are 4 months out range from 30-80 pounds lost. I hope I’m one that loses easily but things never seem to work out easily for me.

i reward myself with jewelry - earrings and necklaces only (my fingers are getting smaller, so I don't wnat to have to re-size them).

As for the cruises - dresses fit for many sizes. I'm down 2-3 sizes in pants and can still wear the dresses I used to wear (especially the belted ones). And dresses are great for a cruise. I buy one pair of black pants in each size (I find ones that aren't too expensive) and am just continuing to wear the tops I used to wear. I did also buy a few pairs of jeans in smaller sizes on super sale after christmas, and those'll last a while.

Get some leggings. Those tend to fit better as your weight changes and you can still wear them after you drop some pounds.

Girl I have banned myself from jewelry stores. I went on a little jewelry buying bender in October 😁. But this is a fabulous idea for 100 pounds!!!

I can definitely get a few sizes out of tops. I like the clearance rack at dressbarn for when I have to buy slacks for work. Dresses are my favorite for vacation. I’m not sure if I will need to buy new bathing suits yet.

You will most definitely have to get new underwear and bras...

Crap. I forgot about that. Definitely going to need bras. I never had boobs until I got fat. I’m guessing they are going to disappear along with the fat. Oh well....worth it

Forget about clothes then... Save for plastics 😓😢😥

And when I get to the point where I have to invest in Shapewear and as old as I am, my skin is never gonna smooth completely out, I shall still be grateful, it can't be as bad as the rubber Playtex Girdles Mama shamed me into wearing. They hit, made you sweat, and even back then it made me break out, I must already been sensitive to rubber. And I never could figure why being built like a fat sausage was better than having curves where God placed them. SMH after all these years! I would like my chest bigger than my rump but I may be fated for the 2 tennis balls in tube socks, wonder if I can roll them up and put them in a nice bra?👙🎀

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
