I was a very avid soda drinker. And I have been craving it insanely. 😩 just a long shot but are there any alternative? Is flavored water ok? The carbonated kind ? Or is carbonation just out of the question ? Thank you in advance.

Ivy, my brother drinks coke icee's but you can't go crazy they have sugar...

I suggest you try freezing a diet coke and eat it with s spoon.

Thank you for the info. I just wanted to know if it was harmful to my pouch. 🖤

Did your surgeon or dietician give you any guidelines re soda? Some do, some don't.

The thought is that the carbonation can make the much reduced stomach feel gassy and bloated, some also say that the gas released can stretch the stomach.

Yo be honest i had surgery in Mexico didn’t get many instructions. I’ve kinda just been learning on my own and using this site to gain some info. Highly considering a nutritionist now.

I would stay away from soda. I drank Diet Coke for over twenty years and had to quit for my surgery.

I have had a few carbonated waters since then, but it was many months post op and I do find them irritating.

I have no intention of going back to soda.

My surgeon says that the ‘soda Can stretch your pouch’ is a myth - why would it stretch your pouch when there is an easy exit (burping)!! And heavy overeating is the stretch culprit!

Anyway, I was a huge soda (and then, when I got fat, diet soda) drinker. Not I drink carbonated Water from a sodastream, and add lemon slices or watermelon bits or occasionally 10% low sugar cranberry juice as a flavour. No stomach stretching at all, one year out!

Well I am not going to risk it, almost every time I burp, I vomit, not worth the sorrow.

My surgeon said no carbonation. Some surgeons allow it. My surgeon was not particularly strict (no liver shrink diet, yogurt and cottage cheese allowed after 5 days) but he's old school about carbonation. I was addicted to regular sugared soda and I am terrified that even a sip of diet or seltzer will start crazy cravings. That is the only food or beverage that I really feel I can absolutely never have again, ever.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
