Lap-Band in Upstate NY

Yes so does my insurance. I have BC/BS. I have already done all the reading and seeing what they need so I have it all done before my semiar next week. I am so ready and working to have this done as soon as I can. I am getting married sept of 09 and have been trying to lose weight and I have had no luck also this has been the story of my life. I have so ready to have this done and cannot wait until after it. I am hoping that things will go quickly and smoothly and I am very happy that I found a support group that I can go to and ask questions! So do you think that it's possible to do it quicker than 8 months as long as I have all my ducks in a row as they say.

Thanks so much for welcoming me!

Well - Congratulations!

You must be very excited about the wedding.

I know you said you got in real quick to the information meeting, but which group are you going to?

Once you decide which practice you want to use, I would talk with someone about your upcomming wedding and explain the situation. If they can, they will be as receptive as possible.

I think March is fairly doable, you just need to get the practice on board with you. You just have to work your butt off (Literally) to get that 5% off within the 6 weeks. That is what I did. The only reason I had to wait a bit was the MD I originally was going with went out on disability and I had to wait for an opening with one of the other docs.

We all have different experiences so feel free to ask all of your questions.

I am going with the highland hospital group with Dr. O'malley and the rest of his group. I cannot remember my dr that I am going to semiar with. Dr. Thad maybe? I dunno LoL. I am going to stick with that group my mom had surgery by Dr. O'malley a few years ago and refuses to let me go anywhere else. I don't really mind who my doctor is there because I hear such great things about all of them that it won't bother me. Thanks so much Yes I cannot wait until I get married we have been together for 7 years and we have been engaged for 2 years. We just bought a house and things are going pretty well.

I just would like to be thinner the wedding and also for when I have children and just to be healthy. I have been trying for what seems like forever to lose weight and it will just not come off. I am hoping that this will help me get it off and keep it off forever. I have tryed so many weight loss things and some of the weight comes off but as soon as I do one thing different I gain it all back. It's been a hard struggle because I was thin in highschool and then got thyroid disease so that doesn't help at all.. at least we have it all under control now. I bet you all have similar stories about trying to lose weight so you all understand what Im going through which is nice because there are many people out there that don't..

Thanks!

Melissa

I was so ready... and I started real food today. Gosh I'm afraid of taking bites of food. So I haven't eaten much yet. I had some chicken from chicken and dumplings. left overs ya know. That was ok. I want something with flavor  Won't happen the next few days. I hate going out of town.

Welcome & Congrats on the wedding!

I was in a rush as well as I needed to get banded in the summer due to being a college professor....BUT although things went quickly - things also "happen". I started in March, and due to the one doc being out - my surgery was delayed since my doc (OMalley) had to take on other cases as well as his own. However - it still was a 6 mo process - which I guess is pretty good time!

I made arrangements - and made the new timeframe work for me. Today is 14 days after surgery, and I'm down 14 lbs - for a total of 34 for the process - I'm THRILLED!!

Best wishes to you!

Gilta - nectar is a Protein supplement that is supposed to be very fruity like crystal light with 23 g of protein per 8 oz. However - I learned GNC does NOT carry it - so I have to order it online. In the meantime, I am using something like Nectar that GNC does carry - but they only have one flavor and I'm already sick of it!!

Who woulda thought pureed food could taste so good?!?! This isn't bad at all! Can't wait for a fill so the weight starts dropping like it did that 1st week again!

I am a college student too. So I am trying to do it durning my breaks also like in Dec. Jan. Or March or I can do it in the middle of May but I may be starting a new job so I kinda would like it out of the way ya know? And I am also on my parents insurance until I graduate which is May. But I can start taking gradute courses to stay on my parents insurance if need be. I don't want to have to switch my insurance around during the middle or end of the process cuz that I know can take forever.

Now did you explain to them that you needed to have it done in the summer and they worked with you? Cuz Im working if I tell them that I am getting married they may work with me. I have not heard one bad thing about them at all..I heard they are all very nice and supportive so Im not too worried. Also I was wondering if anyone had Dr. Thad Boss? I guess he is new to the hospital so I wondering if I would have a problem with my insurance because he is new.

Great job on the weight loss I cannot wait until I have it done becasue i am so tired of being overweight and it is now getting to the point that I am unable to do things. I don't look that overweight, I weigh alot more than I look. Now my knees and hips are hurting and I am out of breath alot more than I used to be. It sucks :wink2:

Thanks again for everyone that has been answering my questions for me! I really apperiate it!

I went in for my first fill today. It was not bad at all! They just poked me and got in right away. They did the fluro and decided to only put in 1/2 of what they normally do. It was amazing when they took out the 2cc's I had in there, you really could tell the difference. I now have 3.5 cc's.

I am happy I did this now instead of waiting until I got back from the convention in November.

Melissa - Ah - now I know you are the bride! You will be very happy with the practice. They have been very understanding about different situations, so it will help you to explain to them what is going on.

Teri - sounds like you are doing pretty well

Melody - Thanks for the info on nectar. I am trying very hard not use Protein Drinks often. It is a great idea though.

Barbie - way to go! You will get those last 5 lbs off soon.

Barbie,

Oh boy - don't pressure yourself too much!

I know a few days before I went into get the final weigh in for approval, I did Protein Shakes 2 times a day and a light meal. I made sure it was under 1000 calories.

That got me in the right place!

All,

Oh yeah - I gave Carol all of my clothes that have gotten too large for me. I told her when she is done with them, to pass them onto the rest of the crew here. I love knowing they are going to a good home!

I got another fill yesterday. I've not got 7cc in a 14cc band. I was up a pound but I'm down in inches. Been running around a lot at work and doing yard work at home. Of course, Dr D's first words are You're up! Theresa was there, she said don't worry!! I've done fine, and this is how it's supposed to work.

No trouble with the fill this time!!

How is everyone else?

Glad this fill went better than the first! :)

Something was funky with the scale at Beyond Diets this week...i got on and it said i was down 10 POUNDS....as nice as that would have been I straight up told her "NO WAY am I down that much"...so I got back on and i stayed the same as last week...no loss but didn't gain so WOOHOO! That was my last mandatory beyond diets!!!!!!! I'm going again next week to get one more WI and then I'll have them write my letter for Dr D...i'm calling his office today to make the appointment with him! :rolleyes2: I can't even say how excited I am (but you all have been there so you DO know...lol)

Oh! And I say the dress WILL ZIP in 2 weeks because not only have I been crazy good with my eating, but I'm having it let out and shortened tomorrow (going for the alterations) So i'm not going to go crazy trying to fit in it and make myself sick...but it WILL Fit....nicely if I might add..

How is everyonen else's week going? Hope everyone has a great weekend if I dont' get a chance to get back on...

Hi -

Melody - glad this fill went better

Barbie - you will fit in the dress!

I am so glad I went and had the fill last week. I am down 4 lbs this week and hit 50 lbs gone since starting and 39 since the surgery!

I am very happy that I did this and I feel so much better. I decided after the gala/charity my DH and I are involved in that I had to do something. Last year I had to order a dress online and get a 22w. I was so disgusted with myself so I decided to do this. I bougth a dress off the rack - a 16 that fits perfectly! I will take pictures and show you next week so you can see the difference.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Hi All,

I put together an album so you can see the pictures of before and now. I did go to the gala saturday and you will not believe it. The dress was a bit too big! I put it on without undoing the zipper with no problem and then found that the top was too big so I had to find a strapless bra. Before it was tight enough that I did not need one. Everytime I took a step, the dress kept dropping down a bit. It drove me nuts but I was happy to be in a regular 16.

We won a few gift certificates for Bon Ton and Lord & Taylor. I think I will need them.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
