I had my gastric sleeve performed on 12/7/18. I woke up today felling full and bloated. I don’t want to eat or drink anything. Is that normal?

If you don't have a fever or severe pain that isn't tolerable with meds, then yes. Swelling, bloating, etc will happen during healing. If they gave you an incentive spirometer, be sure you are using it every hour! It does help!

I agree with Matt.. Totally normal, but you will have to still eat and drink in your case drink because you are on liquids most likely. The key will be to stay hydrated so you don't end back up in the hospital.

the 3-5 days post op is when all the swelling and actually surgery is in full effect. That swelling inside will go down in a couple of days just make sure you are taking your meds and drinking your Water. If you don't have a fever then you should feel much better in a day or 2. Good luck the first couple of weeks it can make you question your choice to have had it done but you will get through it. and be glad you did

Totally normal feelings. I had zero desire for anything for awhile. You just have to focus on meeting liquid and Protein goals.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
