Could you define what a WLS "Tweener" is?

You're one! :D You are actually a hybrid! :D You're like Van Wilder--a 26th year Sophomore--really cool, loves us so much, he likes hangin' with us even though by now he could run a multi-national conglomerate. :D

What's your definition?

I've never heard the term which is why I was asking. I don't have a definition because I still don't fully understand what one is supposed to be. I know "Tweens" are children that aren't in the single digits anymore but aren't teenagers yet. I don't know what it is supposed to mean in the WLS world.

Ok, so tweens in the WLS world (in my tiny Idaho) are peeps who are experienced -- maybe 6mos-9mos+, but are not yet VETS.

Then wouldn't I be a Vet? Given I've been doing this WLS dance since 2011?

That's where the hybrid comes in. You're a VET for sure! But cuz of your "coolness," you also get to stick around and play with the Sophomores. :)

Actually ALL VETS can come play with the Sophomores and hang--you guys just may find us tedious and annoying. :) But we'd love having y'all! And plus, we'd feel like big kids too! :D

Ok, first subject for me here is: dun dun dunnnnnnhhhhhhh! Hair loss.

Yes, I'm finally facing up to the fact that I'ma need to either join the HairClub for women or am gonna need to start askin' Santa for a wig topper. *sob* *bigger sobs* *sniffle*. Ugh, I so didn't want this to happen, but it has and frankly I'd rather be thin than have full hair! :( "No regerts." I think this "sitchi-ation" is beyond the scope of TE, and won't take added Biotin. I am gonna try adding a bit of zinc although my multi has it already.

Here's what I'm looking at--wish I could afford real human hair...

image.png.3d9ca93c561b2d04d4b279b656592f3f.png

In this color (but I'm afraid it might be too red), then I would just maybe do semi-permanent color on my real hair to sorta match this?

image.thumb.png.3a7cc6fe5ccc4cdf032306f7abece9df.png

Thoughts? Anyone had to deal with this already and have any experience with toppers? Are synthetic heat friendlys sucky?

Checking in ....

I'm just starting the maintenance phase. So finding the dietary boundaries of where I'm either maintaining or slowly losing. But looking for balance and sustainability. I can't handle restrictive diet plans

I'm no help with advice on wig toppers. I had a lot of Hair loss months 3-5 post op. I lost about 1/2 of my hair volume. Thankfully I started out with enough it's only noticeable to me. I'm also wearing my hair shorter than I ever have in my adult life, at shoulder length, so I'm sure that helps.

I'm in! Haven't tried wigs yet. Hair loss has finally slowed down, but what's left looks so dry & brittle! Ugh! I was 9 months out from sleeve on 11/26, or 4 weeks out from RnY, however you want to count it.

Congrats on the maintenance phase girl!!! Woot. Did you honestly think you would ever get here? What are your thoughts on implementing maintenance? Do you have a game plan or are you just starting research on it?

I totally get the whole "no restrictive plans"! I hope given enough time I will one day heal enough not to be so forking carb sensitive. It's not that I don't love eating LC, and with Mr. F's T2, we will always need to maintain a little bit more strict focus, but it would be nice to have a weekly or bi-weekly (is that 2times per month) plan where we could have one meal and of being bad without it damaging our mets more. I think you will TOTALLY find that given how you are eating with balance now and yet, you are still losing. That gives me much hope for your maintenance outlook.

Is your hair growing back now or just at a loss standstill? I had hoped mine was growing back, but I think it's just breaking. Have endocrinologist appt next week to see if he can help. Ugh! I literally lose a paddlebrush full of hair each hair wash. :( I'm so bald on top and in front I want to cry when I look at it down. I swore after bald chemo I would never go short again. Even if I have to buy a full head of new hair! :D Do you like that style/color?

Oh, you're in--whether you wanna be or not! Hahahaaha!!! So have you figured any kind of hair product or treatment that is helping your hair look revitalized? Have you checked out any Aveda stuff? And welcome! So glad you found us!!!! Woootttt!!!! Congrats on your conversion and healing like a champ!!!

I'm not a good example for maintenance, or at least not in context of what we hear about here on BP. My goal always was to eat a normal diet, just smaller quantities. So that's what I'm doing. It goes against pretty everything preached here, so I'm keeping it pretty low key. That's why I'm not posting on the food Before and After Thread. So far so good, but these are still very early days. I'm willing to adjust and eat more mindfully if the scale begins to creep up. But whatever I end up doing long term it will always be more of a "normal" diet vs. restrictive. I will always eat out A LOT, drink alcohol, enjoy ethnic food, etc., I just may need to balance that with being stricter while I'm home.

I think I'm just at a standstill on Hair loss. Maybe it's growing back? I don't know I've always had tons of fly away baby hairs, hard to tell if there are more than there was before. If yours is just breakage maybe try some hair masks? (And for you too @Orchids&Dragons) I just bought one from Amazon that gets great reviews, because I flat Iron my hair more now then I did before. So you don't like your hair down? I don't like mine up, because my ponytail is like the diameter of a nickle, vs. a quarter before :(, and it shows the thinning through my temples.

I like the style a lot. Cause, it's basically my hair, only now it's shorter.. I like the color too, mine is similar as well. I had my colorist take some of the "golden" tones out last time because it goes a little too red for my liking, especially in the sunlight. So I'm starting to lean towards ash tones vs. golden tones. But my complexion tends to flush and go red, so I'm trying to counteract that a bit. You may not have that issue.

Wouldn't that be lovely if you're able to maintain the moderation thing?! I have nowhere near enough restriction at this point for reason. LOL. I already know this about myself. *snort* You can post what you want here or in the IF thread. You know that. You won't lead us down the primrose path girlie cuz I think we all know that we each follow our own plans that are working! And love that the IF and mindfulness can work with you!!!

So glad it's at a standstill or growing!!! Embrace the flyaways. My doc said add zinc, but dunno if that's true or not. Will tell more once have the endo appt. What hairmask did you buy? I want a flat Iron but am terrified of them for now. LOL. My pony tail without my little hairpiece is like the size of a dime. So damn pitiful. It used to be over 1 1/2 across! Swearsies. My temples are a tiny bit bare but most is all the way in front and top to my crown. Sigh.

I get ruddy too. :( I was thinking ash with some kind of lighter highlight (chunky style). Like this girl's hair in back...

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
