Addicted to canned string beans with apple cider vinegar!

Recommended Posts

Hello! I’m 4 and a half months post op now and have been having trouble eating. meat grossed me out, more specifically chicken! I don’t like fish, I haven’t been able to get in almost any Protein :( but for the past week I’ve literally become addicted to canned string Beans with apple cider ginger and a splash of olive oil. It’s so weird! I eat about a can and a half every day throughout the day. It’s actually about the only thing I can eat with the exception of land o lakes thinly sliced yellow American cheese, so weird and so specific. Don’t like any other brand. I’m a little nervous about all the vinegar although I use braggs apple cider which is suppose to have many benefits. Anyone else have these weird cravings/addictions like this? And any experience with apple cider vinegar? Wish I could speak to a nutritionist but of course the one at my hospital is on maternity leave and they don’t have a replacement. Going for an appt with a doctor in 2 weeks but just curious about any one else’s experience...also, any protein suggestions for a really picky eater??? :/ thanks!

I love marinated mushrooms--it's the vinegar! I'll have to try string Beans. For Protein, do you like eggs? tofu? beef? shrimp? I can't manage well-done anything, but a few strips of medium rare ribeye goes down nicely, and tofu, if you season it with strong flavors, is not too bad. I put it in stir frys. Eggs are hit or miss, but usually I can do soft boiled. You can put raw pasturized eggs in shakes without running the risk of salmonella. Shrimp are my go-to protein, I put them in salad, eat them boiled with cocktail sauce, toss a few in with the stir fry vegetables, eat them on top of Triscuits with avocado and hot sauce...

The vinegar is amazing!! eggs are also hit or mess, at first it’s all I was eating but now it bothers me.havent tried steak, worried it might get “stuck” but maybe I’ll give it a try. Just hate the thought of chewing meat to a mush :( I did have shrimp once from a restaurant that was amazing and basically melted, haven’t tried to cook it myself though but I have to try because I’m sure I’m not even taking in 10 grams of Protein daily. Thanks for the tips!!

Go back to the Protein Shakes and then you can continue your green bean extravaganza! Lol

I'm addicted to nuts, all nuts. Raw, roasted, salted/unsalted, whole, ground... with any type of meal.

Help.

I tried to quit then realized I didn't want to lol. We need a support group for odd eateries.

What about pickled eggs? You can make them yourself!

Grilled chicken with vinegar-y buffalo sauce?

Ceviche?

Lentil Soup topped with a healthy dose of vinegar

Avgolemono soup? I make a cheat version with cream of chicken and a lot of lemon juice

Carne Asada, Pollo Asada, Carnitas with a big squeeze of lime

(Can you tell I'm a vinegar/acid fan myself? :P)

I don't (and never really did) do the chewing to mush thing ... no issues, nothing ever got stuck, but YMMV

Enjoy your weirdness with all its weird specificity. I can think of a thousand things worse than pickled green Beans with a hint of ginger and olive oil.

I was overdosing on pan-fried (unbreaded) okra for a while. I still crave it. I've since added thin strips of rib-eye steak and udon noodles to the mix. It's not how much of it I eat (which is three bites tops before I'm stuffed), but the fact that I've actually found something for which I have an appetite. food, in general, has still taken a backseat in my life. I'm embarrassed to admit that I've turned into one of those annoying people who sometimes says, "I think I forgot to eat today."

You'll move on to the next big thing in the weird foods department soon enough. Take weird pleasure in discovering your latest craving. Shrimp with Peanut Butter? Arugula pancakes? Dried crickets?

As long as you're taking your supplements and following the other recommendations the best you can, I'd say you're on the right track. Hey, you've almost lost 100 pounds!:)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
