I'm so confused and frustrated. I know stalls are very common around week 3 (I am 19 days out, so I am almost there). Earlier in the week, I was down 12.7lbs. since surgery, for a total of 33.8 including the pre-surgery diet. Then two days ago I went up a pound, and I figured, ok, Water fluctuation, but then today, another pound. I am getting in my Protein and eating between 400-500 calories now. I went back to work, so I am more active. Why am I gaining? I expected a stall, but not a gain, is that common as well? Am I eating too many calories for this stage of the game? I had really hoped to lose 15 the first month.

Yes it's normal for some of us. A lot of things can cause the scale to fluctuate even drift upward including hydration levels, sodium intake, menstrual cycles and even Constipation. Keep an eye on all of those things as well as the scale to determine trends.

Safe Journey!

I can't stand to see those little fluctuations through the week, which is why I only weigh once a week. There are too many head games for me to weigh daily. Maybe you should stay off the scale for a little while and see if that helps.

I know you are right, I’m going to try but man, it is soooo hard for me not to get on every day, I’ve gotten so used to that in the 6 months prior to surgery. I’m going to do my best though. If I can deny the temptations of the Cookies at work today surely I can pass up the temptation of the scale!

Good point about sodium. I went from shakes and yogurt to Beans and cheese in the purée stage, that might be it, thank you!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
