I feel like I blew it

Recommended Posts

I ate decently: small amount of Turkey in small bites, a very small amount of dressing, two bites of mac n cheese...

But later I ate a piece of pie with whipped cream. Almost a whole small sliver.

And I had 3 alcohol drinks throughout the day (from 12-8pm).

Now I have the typical fat, shameful remorse that i always have had after pigging out. But I now have the additional fear DID I RUIN WHAT I HAVE COME THIS FAR WITH? I'm 6.5 mos out. What if I stretched out my sleeve with two glasses of champagne. I drank s-l-o-w but it's still bubbly.

Tomorrow has to be a restart day. Protein Shakes, Water, water, water. I didn't think holidays would be this hard. I thought it'd be me chatting with all the family and hearing how great I look (motivation before dining). But our plans fell through and...I messed up.

Look, I am just starting. Have surgery in like 20 days. We are all gonna screw up. We did before the surgery. You can't feel bad for being human...we all f up. Tomorrow is another day and do your regular eating routine,

.I already know I will make mistakes, but will do my best to compensate for it. Be kind to yourself;)

Now, I'm not a doctor, but I can't imagine one day will ruin your stomach. If it did stretch a little bit, I'm sure it will retract. It is probably through daily overeating that you really ruin everything.

I had some turkey, a bit of dressing, some green Beans. Later I had a small piece of pie. What’s wrong with that?

We are still human, meant to enjoy gatherings and special occasions with our family and friends.

Do not feel guilty, get back on the regular program tomorrow. I don’t feel like enjoying a holiday meal is screwing up, I think it’s normal.

I’m two weeks out and today was the first day I could have soft food. After consulting my BariatricPal nutritionist I knew what I was allowed to have from the Thanksgiving menu. I had turkey with gravy and sweet potatoes — about one to two bites of each. Later in the day I had a sliver of pumpkin pie with whipped cream, just the filling no crust. I logged it, loved it and am moving on. You should too! Doesn’t sound like a bad day at all...sounds like a small portion of holiday food on a day where almost everyone else pigs out!

You're fine!!!!

The problem comes in when you have a little pie next time...another drink...macaroni and cheese next week...etc.

It's hard to tell your brain no when you do it and get away with it. Today was a holiday. Tomorrow is not. Dont break your nutrition rules tomorrow or it will.be that mich easier to break them this weekend, too!

Take it from me! I'm a VSG failure. It worked, I didnt. Keep your eye on the prize- a long term, healthy you!

You are fine. See that is our mentality though. I do the same thing. I would mess up one day eating and self sabotage myself for. On the on end. “normal” eaters such as my roommate pig out one day and the next day they are back to normal. Your stomach will not stretch after just one over eating session. It’s like s niece right you have to work it out over time to get bigger. Don’t have remorse enjoy the delicious food, just tomorrow stay strong and move on!!

Sleeves don't stretch, so you're fine there.

6 months is the point at which my team allows alcohol--some other teams want you to wait a full year--so you're probably fine there. I mean, yeah, 3 glasses is a lot, and all the extra Water tomorrow to compensate is a good idea. But in the scheme of things, it's no biggie.

A sliver of pie one day a year is not how any of us got fat to begin with, and it's not enough to ruin all of your hard work thus far.

Go back to your Proteins and veggies like nothing happened, and it'll be fine. You don't have to punish yourself with a liquid-only day; just keep doing the work you've been doing thus far, and treat this like what it was: a single day when you indulged more than you meant to--and still way less than you would have before surgery--but just one day out of over 6 months of eating to nourish your body and an upcoming lifetime of doing the same.

We are all going to make mistakes, but as long as you recognize it and get back on track that is the most important thing. Do not dwell on the slip as the slip can mentally turn into a repeat incident, especially from how we used to think. Change your thought process to. it was a holiday I enjoyed it and tomorrow is a fresh start. We cannot feel like we are depriving ourselves during this journey..

You got this!

I also enjoyed my Thanksgiving dinner, we are human. I had turkey, some green Beans and a piece of carrot cake. I even had a drink!
I enjoyed it :)

As others have said, it isn’t a daily indulgence. It was a treat, a holiday etc.

Back on my usual routine this morning and I’m sure all is well in WLS world. I even weighed myself like a crazy person this morning lol. Didn’t gain 10 lbs (stayed even), so the world is ok haha

Forgive yourself— don’t make it a daily habit and move on!

You don't stretch your pouch out. According to my surgeon, it will get slightly larger over time, but only slightly.

Hi !

Try to treat this as a rare indulgence. You can Detour from the plan and head right back ASAP. At four months post op I vacationed and indulged in a lot of non plan foods, but went right back to basics when I returned. This lifestyle is for the rest of your life so try to find a sustainable balance.

Safe Journey!

I am 6 months out and pretty much ate what you did minus the mac and cheese. Turkey breast, cornbread dressing and sauteed brussels sprouts. Before we ate I shared a bottle of prosecco with my husband--my first experience with a carbonated beverage and I will not be doing that again. Burping like a truck driver😨 Made a sugar free, gluten free cheesecake and had a small piece with a few berries and sugar free whipped cream. Drank a couple of tequilas during the Cowboys game (wooo hoooo!!)

I think what I ate and drank was realistic for me and I do not feel bad about it. Weight was up 0.8 # this morning but I am fine with that. Plan for today is lots of Water and eating on plan. There are some leftovers we will have for dinner for the next couple of nights.

Please forgive yourself, do not feel bad and keep moving forward.

I think it's because the alcohol went down so easily. Carbonation, not a problem. Sugary combination, not a problem. Like I dipped my toe in the Water and hoped I'd get bit by a shark. But, nah, the water's fine. Come on in. I didn't want to really know that I'd have zero reaction to a high sugar drink.

I'm doing better today.
And biked 10 miles at the gym so I'm feeling better about myself for at least getting my butt there and doing it. It reset my head. Today's a new day.

You are over reacting.
2 glasses of champagne didn't stretch out anything.

I don't think you "messed up" at all, it sounds like you ate within your limits. The whole idea isn't to stop you from ever eating certain things again... it's to make better choices. This was a holiday, you ate smartly for a holiday... stop beating yourself up. You didn't do any damage. The problem isn't what you ate, the problem is what do you do next? Do you keep eating things you shouldn't be? Do you eat more than you should be? Do you drink more and more? If the answer is "no" then don't worry about yesterday.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
