Any advice for newcomers?

Recommended Posts

Hello ladies! I'm very new, had my first official appointment last week this starting my 6 month pre-op journey. I have a couple of friends that have had the surgery that I've been asking any advice.

Although I'm excited for this journey and ultimately the surgery, I'm a little apprehensive about it. Like it may not actually be a reality and I'm going to wake from this dream and it'll be psych! The jokes on me.

My weight has been a struggle since puberty and I'm ready for that to end and start life as the woman I've always wanted to be.

I know the next 6 months is a journey to learning how to eat properly and the lifestyle changes and reprogramming how to eat and nutrition.

I've been told that if I lose 17lb, which can realistically happen in 6 months, that I will no longer qualify. Which is causing some issues for me... having to keep a food diary, make diet changes, eat properly, etc.. how do I all that and NOT lose 17lb ?!?!?

I've already been told by a friend who's had the surgery to start Biotin now to lessen Hair loss post surgery. And to start experimenting with Protein Shakes and find something I like now so post OP I'll not have any problems.

Thanks in advance for your advice and suggestions!

I would suggest :

Using the search feature on the site. Chances are there's a thread already created (with a wealth of information) about a question you may have

Taking a ton of full body photos

Not buying too much of anything pre-op

Learning to enjoy sipping water/fluids instead of guzzling it

Loving yourself completely (big, small, perfect, flawed & everything in between)

Using support systems in person or virtually for accountability

Practicing a sustainable exercise routine

Safe Journey!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
