nearly 4 weeks out and had half a sandwich (no crust)

Recommended Posts

HI all, I am almost 4 weeks post op from a sleeve, and on mushies, I don't know how I feel about this, but I ate half a sandwich ( no crust), it had chicken, avocado and lite mayo, and i chewed it till it was all mushy. it was so good, and my stomach didn't hurt, gargle or give me reflex ect. do you think I have overdone it? I have struggled with the mushy stage with reflux and pain, then did this which I thought would cause issues, and nothing, thoughts anyone?

I don't think you hurt anything physically but you should stay away from bread, crust or no crust. But note that your body is still healing and having "unmushy" things isn't helpful.

Try this!

Baked Ricotta with Marinara

This is the one that everyone RAVES about!

8 oz of ricotta cheese

½ cup grated Parmesan

1 large egg, beaten

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Salt & pepper to taste

½ cup marinara sauce

½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Mix ricotta cheese, parmesan, beaten egg, seasonings together and place in a oven proof dish. Pour marinara on top and top with mozzarella cheese. Bake it in the oven @ 450 for about 20-25 minutes (best) or nuke it till hot and bubbly.

I think it is dangerous to not follow your surgeons instructions. There are reasons we have the stages we have, and it is mostly because certain foods will compromise your staple line, which as they know can be fatal. I know it is hard to stick to it but it is necessary; we don't always understand the reasons but your surgeon does. And thankfully, it does not last forever. Just until you are healed up properly.

I’m 3 1/2 weeks out from sleeve surgery (10/10/18). My nutritionist and diet allow chicken salad with lite mayo and it allows avocado too. Other than the bread I don’t see what’s wrong with what you ate (depending on your nutritionist’s recommendation). I’m glad it went down well! I have tried chicken but it didn’t agree with me. I’ll try again in a few weeks.

I am pretty sure it is the surgeon you need to listen too. They are the ones who know what can happen to your staple line if you do not follow the diet and the stages. I haven't heard of anyone else being allowed chicken at 3 1/2 weeks but if your surgeon says so, then great.

My nutritionist is in my surgeon’s office so she only sees bariatric patients. She is the only one that I’ve talked to about what to eat. The surgeon just said to eat what the nutritionist told me to. She did say to chew it really well - basically purée it in my mouth. It still didn’t sit well with me but I’ll try again in a few weeks.

thats what i was thinking, the chicken was shredded, with mushy avo and lite mayo, which are all allowed in my mushy diet, so it was just the bread, which was plain white, no seeds ect and as stated no crust. it has been the only thing I ate that didnt cause issues.

thanks for your help,

For me, all those things you listed are called stage 3, which starts no sooner than week 4. I wasn't aware that some surgeons allowed chicken that soon. I'm looking forward to the pureed/soft food stage starting week 4. Nice that you can have that. Good luck!

You should consult your team and ask if you can accelerate your plan stages instead of gambling each time you try something off plan.

Their answers may surprise you

I have to agree with everyone else, you do need to check things out with your Bari-staff. That said, if I were channelling your stomach, and Lord knows I don't channel mine any too good, mIne RUNS MY LIFE. OK your stomach might have been saying food. GLORIOUS FOOD, IF I AM GOOD, MAYBE SHE WILL GIVE ME SOME MORE SOME TIME! AND IT WILL HAVE TASTE, NOT MUSHY.GRUEL!🍜😛

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
